MY 99 escort feels like its not getting gas completely when i push on the gas pedal. And it dies sometimes and takes a minute to start back up. i took it to the mechanics and the ran a diagnostic but it didn't find anything. I described what was happening and the said it might be the fuel pressure i think. But i want a second opinion before i pay for something i might not need. I've already had the ideal air control replaced, and the fuel filter , which is waht the said was wrong to begin with, and it still not fixed, so you can understand my hesitation. PLEASE help.

Replace the PCV (positive crankcase Valve). Check that the PCV hose going into the intake manifold doesn't have a crack in it. Check to see that the air cleaner isn't plugged up. If you have over 60k it could need new spark plug wires. It sure sounds like a fuel starvation issue to me. You could try a can of fuel injector cleaner in a full tank of gas. The injectors might be dirty since you needed a new fuel filter. You haven't been taken for a ride. The Idle Air Control and the fuel filter are usually the culprits when you have an idle problem.
