My 2000 Accord (4 cyl auto, 78000 miles) has developed a noise in the front that starts around 25 MPH. It only happens when cruising or accelerating; the noise goes away when coasting. The best way I can describe it is: rump, rump. rump. At 40 MPH, there are about 4-5 "rumps" a second. I thought it was a tire problem, so I replaced them...no better. It seems to be dependent on vehicle speed; changing from D4 to D3 makes no difference in the frequency. The car drives well, and I can't feel anything unusual.
Any ideas? Thanks, Tom.

It could be your suspension.

Lift one end and try to spin wheels. Do you hear any difference?
Try to wiggle wheels side to side or up and down. Is there any movement?

Good luck,

Sam

Update on: 2000 Accord noise.
Took it to the dealer this morning and he said the noise came from the transaxle differential bearing. Wants to replace the transaxle - $2600. I'll have to think about that.
