Let me explain, lol. I know that you can get a car engine light on and emissions problems if there is a problem with the gas cap on a cougar (mine is a 1999).

I broke it recently and the other day it died on me. I was wondering if the broken gas cap could possibly have anything to do with it. :)

Thanks

Possibly. Cars with Emissions Sensors are very touchy & picky. I would get a new cap. They are about 9 bucks.

No, a faulty gas cap will not cause the car to die. It will however cause the MIL to illuminate, it you pull codes you will find an EVAP large leak code P0440 or P0455.

Now, as far as your engine cut out problem you may have a fautly fuel pump or crank sensor. Go to autozone have them pull your codes and post them if you need more help. Regards, Frank
