93 accord idles rough and gets hot while idling.MurksYourHeroes 10-30-2008, 04:14 AM I hate to ask for help again, but my longtime mechanic and friend died a couple years ago from a strange lung disease. I really don't know where to go for advice now. Today, at a stoplight, my car started idling really rough, almost to the point where the RPM's got so low, it seemed it was almost going to die. Then, I watched the temperature gauge go up a little. I started driving again, turned the fresh air on hot, and it went down. Anyone know if this is a typical, easy to diagnose problem? I put new plugs in about a month ago as well as a new air filter. I know that really doesn't have much to do with this, but I'm a bit perplexed. Seems like the idle could mean I need a new cap and rotor, but the almost overheating problem at idle is weird. THANKS a TON in advance!!!! somick 10-30-2008, 11:38 AM Accords are very sensitive to the coolant level. If a sensor encounters an air pocket it gets crazy and sends wrong signals to the ECU. So make sure your coolant level is up to the marks. Check out your thermostat. Make sure the lower hose gets hot after about 15-20 minutes. It will tell you that the thermostat opens at a certain temperature. Rough idling may also be caused by a vacuum leak.
