I may buy an '06 Elantra Hatchback GT with 51K miles. I drove the car in the city and on the highway. it drives well and seems to be tight except the clutch feels weak, very similar to the clutch in my Saturn with 121K miles. What should I check the car for? I know it'll need a timing belt at 60K .Should I take it to a Hyundai mechanic outside of the dealership?

Should I post this message at any other forum?

Thanks

Just be prepared for the 60k mile service. Timing belt, coolant, transmission fluid, even on a manual, and spark plugs. Not much you can do about checking out issues on the clutch unless you remove the transmission.

^^^ exactly what I was going to say. Shop around on service prices though. Most of the time (at least in my experience) the dealer is way higher than other mechanics--sometimes double or more.
