Hey boggieman, you made me crack a smile coled91 11-28-2008, 08:37 PM hey im 17 too and im sure you like to drive fast i do too :). but be safe and dont do dumb stuff for real you can lose your life very easily. my friend owns a honda del sol i am currently looking for one too those are quick little cars if you get the b16 engine. most come with the d16 which is slower but you can deal with it i guess. b16 is great and a del sol is a little two seater car which is really fun to take around. i love acura integras even though most are beat to hell, gotta love 240sx especially early 90s hatch. doesnt necessarily have to be less than 10 years old to look good though. my friends car is a 93 and it looks like it just came off the showroom floor. dont make age a factor but i wouldnt buy anything with over 150,000 miles cause thats alot of miles even for a little 4 cylinder if you get one. but my favorites are honda del sols, 240sx, integras, gotta love the camaro z28.. now thats a fast car but its probably outta your price range unless it looks not that great. and it kills the gas but whatever you get just dont get anything rusted out (like my 95 altima is ;) ) soapsuds22 11-30-2008, 08:27 AM If your not mechanically retarded than I would go with a 2g dsm. I've seen quite a few lower milage 97-99 eclipse's for sale lately. I'm tempted to pick one up myself. Autotropolis12 12-24-2008, 05:09 AM Hi Dimy, Well,As you are just 17 years old then i would prefer you to go used car option rather new or expensive one. You will get many information on the internet regarding used car . The Autotropolis used car locator allows you to search by make, model, state, zip code, and price. No more finding the perfect used car, only to discover it is at a dealership 1,000 miles away. Once you've searched, you can organize your results by year, make, model, mileage, distance from your location, and price. That helps you find the used car you want! Thanks wafrederick 12-25-2008, 10:44 AM Call on prices for insurance first, the eclipse might be high since it is a 2 door. Two door cars are higher in insurance since they are considered a sport coupe.Anything Japanese has lots of electrical problems that are very expensive to repair. With anything Japanese, break the timing belt and bend the valves since most are interferance engines. olderthandirt 01-03-2009, 03:32 PM My brother who has a 17 year old daughter (my neice) has told her for the last 3 years that she was going to have to drive his old dual axle truck and wear a helmet while driving. Seriously though, I'd suggest something reliable and safe. Put some steel between yourself and everyone else. You youngsters have a lot to learn about driving before you start talking about FAST cars, which are also light cars and thus usually come out on the losing end in a collision. '97ventureowner 01-03-2009, 04:18 PM Seriously though, I'd suggest something reliable and safe. My insurance company puts "educational literature" in our renewals and one of them listed some things to consider when selecting a car for a teen. Of those items mentioned above, you can also inquire as to the vehicle you are interested in and how it rates on the safety list, and whether or not it is a likely candidate to be stolen. These can affect your rate. Most cars made in the last 10 to 15 years have more safety equipment such as ABS, airbags, traction control, etc. which make them a better choice than their predecessors. They also say to stay away from those vehicles that are considered sports cars or are "high performance". If you get good grades also remember to ask for the "Good Student Discount" that many insurance companies offer, and I'd like to throw in a little tidbit of my own and take a defensive driving course such as those offered by AAA or the National Safety Council. Upon successful completion, you may be eligible for certain discounts on your insurance premiums. Rainelli 01-18-2009, 09:11 PM I remember my dad bought me a jaguar, he knows i'm a bit sporty and I like driving it...i suggest to try this one, it has an accurate speed. CLS Guy 02-03-2009, 07:33 AM I would suggest a Honda Civic. This car has almost all of the qualities desired by both teens and parents: economy, style, safety, reliability, performance, low insurance rates, good size for passengers, and driving comfort. MartelAutos 02-07-2009, 11:23 PM Crown Victoria. Their big, fast, good looking, last forever, get 20MPG, and lots of other stuff! They are all I drive and I love them. I get the police ones with real low miles though because they are the best ones. Reply if you want more info on them and where to get one. MartelAutos 02-07-2009, 11:26 PM I would suggest a Honda Civic. Buy American because it is people like this who think that all American cars are garbage and are ruining our economy with their ignorance! American car manufactures did suck before but they don't anymore. Ford is one of the safest and most relieable manufactures in the world and their cars look way better and they support our American economy. I was driving an old 1998 Crown Vic police car which has one of the highest crash ratings for cars due to the added features that are included in cop cars. Anyways, my point is that if I was in a Civic I would be dead and in the ground right now but because I wasn't I crawled out with nothing but a couple bruises. I wasn't even sore the next day! And my car was messed up! They rate the HP at 250 the same as the civ version but they are bumped up through the computer. Most of the ones that I get and have right now were never turned back down and they are very fast. The new Chargers say that their V6 can do the same as the Vics V8 but from experience with police cars I have learned that that is not true. They are slower and the engines tend to blow more often. Crown Vics handle better than many cars at high speeds too. As for how they look, that depends on the persons taste of course. In my mind I can understand not going crazy over it but if you hate the way it looks I really don't understand you. Ha, just like the way I don't understand punks that try to race me with their ugly little tuned up Civics. Personally if I had the money I would buy a Charger SRT8 with 425 HP and juice it up to 500 HP. That would be a nice ride. silentscreams85 02-15-2009, 06:23 PM Personally I like the Mercury Marauder a bit more aesthetically, there is a guy who lives nearby me with a modified one, it sounds really nice. Maybe you should learn to drive before you get behind the wheel of something fast mercedesbenz2009 02-20-2009, 02:41 PM hey, I think a great car for you would be a honda CRX, sporty, fast, and cheap (I've seen them around for 1k and less all the time) but you just have to be sure to get the right year if you want automatic drive :) danielsatur 02-21-2009, 11:08 AM Consider a retired FBI car 2000-2003 Ford Taurus. They are cheap + theres a graveyard of parts. Just like the one in drivers education class! MCGIVER toolaholic 02-22-2009, 10:49 AM Jaguars are expensive to repair and the parts are hard to get. Most aftermarket scan tools cannot read the data stream from a Jaguar. You have to go to the dealer to get the codes read.Only one that will read them is the Snap On Motis is the only aftermarket that can. They have electrical problems and most British cars are this way.The Jaguars have two fuel pumps,a secondary and a primary which you cannot tell which one is bad without testing them.A crank sensor for them is $350.00.Avoid a taurus with the Duratec engine and get one with the vulcan engine(8th Vin U) toolaholic 02-22-2009, 10:51 AM THere is no such thing as a $1,000.00 and below car anymore. Most yards bought them for crush, running or not runnning. Most of of them are a big POS and not worth driving. Zachary Zoomy 02-22-2009, 09:32 PM How about a Volvo 850R? Safe and 240HP. or maybe a mid 90s BMW 318i (inline 4, and cheaper than inline 6 ones). toolaholic 02-22-2009, 10:52 PM Price the parts for an import car,EXPENSIVE!A headgasket set for a 2002 Volkswagon Jetta with the V6 is $286.00.Look under the hood of late 1970s Jaguars,do not have the original engine replaced with a 350 Chevy which there are conversion kits to do this oldblu65 02-25-2009, 10:55 PM I would suggest not buying an expensive car for your first car . Until you get more experience driving , you may have fender-benders , etc. and you wouldn't want to do that to an expensive car . Get you a cheap car and get your experience then later move up to that more desirable vehicle . As for the ex-police Crown Vic's not being powerful , I have to disagree ! You seldom see anyone outrun them ! Of course , the old " two-way " radio helps immensely . But still , they will RUN....! If you don't believe it , try whatever you drive against the " men in blue " and their Crown Vic's and I think you may have a change of heart and opinion as well ! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
