What year /transmission/engine/mieage and how good is the transmission? 1buell 10-21-2008, 08:15 PM 1982/not sure/6.2 liter v-8 diesel/129,000 and the transmission is in awsome shape. MT-2500 10-22-2008, 09:18 AM The starter should mount to the engine block. Is the starter still working? What is broke on yours? Starter mounting bolt? Or transmission mounting bolt? Or the splash cover cracked/broke? 1buell 10-22-2008, 08:42 PM transmission mount,it's not bolted to the block it is definatly bolted to the tranny and it's a brand new starter MT-2500 10-23-2008, 08:46 AM transmission mount,it's not bolted to the block it is definatly bolted to the tranny and it's a brand new starter If it is a standard transmission you may be able to replace the bell housing depending on what TRANSMISSION YOU HAVE. Is the mounting broke out or just the bolt threads stripped? 1buell 10-24-2008, 12:09 AM the mount is broke and i bought brand new bolts for the starter MT-2500 10-24-2008, 09:37 AM How did it get broke? What is broke on it? If mounting is broke you will need to replace it. Standard or auto transmission? 1buell 10-25-2008, 12:25 AM 1.when i bought it there was a piece of wood behind it keeping it in place so it would engage the flexplate and one day i went to start it and it made the most horrible sound and i looked and the piece of wood had fallen out hence the loud sound i'm guessing the starter had grinded against the plate but didn't engage if u get what i'm sayin. 2.there is a little circle where the bolt should go through but half of the cirlce is gone 3.Auto, the transmission is a turbo 400 MT-2500 10-25-2008, 10:39 AM 1.when i bought it there was a piece of wood behind it keeping it in place so it would engage the flexplate and one day i went to start it and it made the most horrible sound and i looked and the piece of wood had fallen out hence the loud sound i'm guessing the starter had grinded against the plate but didn't engage if u get what i'm sayin. 2.there is a little circle where the bolt should go through but half of the cirlce is gone 3.Auto, the transmission is a turbo 400 There is no starter mounting on a 400 transmission. The starter bolts straight up from the bottom to the engine block. Check the mounting bolts for being broke off or striped out or gone. Must have been a old carpenter's truck. They use wood blocks to fix everything. Good Luck MT-2500 10-25-2008, 10:40 AM 1.when i bought it there was a piece of wood behind it keeping it in place so it would engage the flexplate and one day i went to start it and it made the most horrible sound and i looked and the piece of wood had fallen out hence the loud sound i'm guessing the starter had grinded against the plate but didn't engage if u get what i'm sayin. 2.there is a little circle where the bolt should go through but half of the cirlce is gone 3.Auto, the transmission is a turbo 400 There is no starter mounting on a 400 transmission.
