Hey guys... I have an opportunity to purchase a 1996 Cougar, and would like to know if there are any known MAJOR common problems with it? What I am talking about is stuff like head gaskets, transmission problems, etc... Also how reliable is this vehicle? Owner says only thing wrong is brake cable disconnected, but she is having it fixed this week. Engine is still running very strong she claims, and interior is mint............

Here is a picture of the car in my sights right now. It has no body damage whatsoever... Should I grab it if the price is right?

V8 or V6?
How many miles on the odometer?

The 3.8 V6 was very good at blowing head gaskets. The 4.6 is a tougher motor, though on some, the upper air intake has been known to implode as it is made of plastic resin that can eventually "rot" from the heat and all.
