a/c deletescarecrow0529 10-19-2008, 06:04 PM a/c doesnt work so i want to get rid of the dead weight. is this a difficult task and where can i go to find out how to do it. Woodie83 10-20-2008, 05:16 AM It's about 45 lbs if you remove it all, some folks leave the evaporator under the glove box and just remove the under hood bits. Go to a mechanic and have the freon removed, then just unbolt it. The compressor, which hangs off the front of the engine and is driven by a belt is the most of the weight, 25 or 30 lbs. scarecrow0529 10-20-2008, 08:37 PM is there a problem in taking of the evaporator if it serves no other purpose i want to take that off too. Woodie83 10-21-2008, 05:44 AM It's just harder to get to and weighs very little. You're also going to need a piece of ductwork to bridge the gap once you remove it. scarecrow0529 10-26-2008, 06:49 PM if i just unbolt and take the hoses of the compressor wont that leak or can the hoses come off too. scarecrow0529 10-29-2008, 05:47 PM must be a dumb question Johnny Mullet 10-29-2008, 09:40 PM You can remove the compressor and as far as the hoses go, just cut them off if you never plan on fixing the A/C in the future or selling the car to someone who lives in Arizona ;) scarecrow0529 11-02-2008, 01:31 PM all done, cut the hoses took the compressor and the bracket off. the bracket seemed to weigh more than the compressor. i wonder if i can use the belt as a replacement for the alternator, they look like they are the same size. well thanks for all your help guys. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
