mild 3" lift but...trailmaker73 10-11-2008, 06:13 PM ok i have a 89 jeep cherokee that has a mild 3" lift. problem is my front end seems to sag and the tail end up in the air. someone told me to angle my torsion bar up more and some one else said stretch my coil springs. neither sound right to me. any advice or help would be greatly apprciated. went out today and did some light trail riding 10/12/08 and i really need to get this front end up off the ground some. any help or advice guys?????? gtmud 10-14-2008, 07:34 PM First off, your right, none of those ideas are very effective, especially seeing how your XJ doesn't have torsion bars! My two cents would be, get the 2" lift. with the front coils if you can, if not then go with the block type, I think Rubicon is about 3 bills and it comes with shocks. THen through a set of 31's under it. THe nice thing about the early models was the room for larger tires with out the expense of big lifts. Might need to trim a little fender, but it will work well. trailmaker73 10-15-2008, 06:59 AM it has a 3" lift in it now. is there a place i can get new coil springs for it? it has a set of 31x10.50 under her now. i got to looking and it seems like they didn't use the new coils but threw the stock coils back in and stock shocks on the front. this thing is turning into a winter project lol i was thinking of just getting a new 4.5 from rough country and redoing the whole thing. but i thank you for the advice to. gtmud 10-15-2008, 07:10 AM Your welcome, and I think your on the right track with installing the 4.5 rough country kit. This would be much better, but watch out for the driveshaft issues once you go above 3". Usually you'll end up installing the slip-yoke eliminator (NP 231 T-case)and a CV driveshaft due to the extreme driveline angles. That would finish out your lift right. Also, allot of times the kits don't come with everything, so look closely at what your getting and price it accordingly. trailmaker73 10-15-2008, 07:30 AM hahahaha see now ya got me thinking. due to limited funds till my season picks back up next spring would it just be cheaper to get a set of heavier springs, shocks and do a 2 or 3 inch body lift. cause i know me if i am going to do all that then i might as well do the lockers and stuff to. i appreciate you letting me pick your brain on this stuff vroom20 10-16-2008, 06:40 PM Heads up, there is no way to separate the body and frame on the cherokee. Its a unibody. The body lift won't happen. Buy some front springs separately. Go to Rusty's Offroad. They have them there cheap ($100). The only thing to consider is the spring rate between front and back. Not enough to really worry about, but if you plan to drive it like that for some time, it might be an uneven ride. Check to see what kind of lift you have on the rear. If you have add a leaf, a block, or shackle extension, you should be fine. If its a new set of leafs, you might want to find out what company they come from and match the front springs to them. If you look around, you can find some great deals on shocks too. Just depends on what you want. gtmud 10-17-2008, 08:29 PM I like vroom's idea, look for the correct front springs, Rusty's is a good place to start. One thing though, when the lift was put on, was the track bar replaced with an adjustable one, or was there an adapter installed. If you go with the springs, which I would for now, then look at getting the adjustable track bar, this will be usable even if you go tot he 4+" lift later on. Not to mention it will help keep your angles correct. One word of advise, after you install the springs, get the front aligned. This will cost a little $$, due to the fact that the only way to correct for camber is to replace the upper ball jiont with an offset one. A good alignment shop will know what to do.
