1989 Toyota Camry, Check Engine light, on and offsrfzup 10-08-2008, 01:54 AM my 1989 Camry LE, V6 Check Engine Light comes on after 10 mins. of driving, when engine is hot....i turn car off for a minute and CEL is off...??? slight burning smell from rear of engine compartment is always present...this event has occured maybe four times over the past two months of short daily drives...almost daily....can some one tell me if i have a serious/minor problem??? HELP!!! Aloha, E Brian R. 10-08-2008, 10:55 AM Probably the smell and CEL are not related. Determine the code stored in the ECM while the CEL is on - possibly enabling you to solve the problem. There are instructions for this procedure in the FAQ thread at the top of this forum and in the Toyota FSM which is linked to at the Manuals post at the top also. Download the FSM for reference in troubleshooting anyway. The smell is probably due to an oil or transmission fluid leak. srfzup 10-08-2008, 03:05 PM Probably the smell and CEL are not related.
