Has anyone ever done a timing belt on the 1.3 4cyl? I have a 95 metro that could use one, but i'm not sure how difficult it is. Someone suggested I replace the water pump while i'm there. Does this sound right? What else is involved? Thanks-

Theres nothing to it! If you can change the accessorie drive belts you can change the timing belt!

1st time for me was last month. I have a 3 cyl so what I did was take off the pump pully & Alt belt, the bottom crank pully then the timing belt cover. Unloosened the tension pully and release tension. Take off the timing belt. Then put everyting back. Besure to line up the timing marks. I did not replace the water pump. I sugest getting a haynes manual or going to the teamswift site and doing a search. That site had a thread with diagrams...I think they said the 4 cylinder was very similar to the 3 cylinder. Good luck.

I've done the timing belt on both the 1.3 and the 1.0. No difference, both very easy. On some cars it is such a PITA to get to the water pump that it's a good idea to change it when you're doing the timing belt. On these cars I don't do the pump until it leaks.
