oil leak 97 2.2angeleyes77 09-28-2008, 02:44 PM There seems to be oil coming out of wter pump. Is this possible or is it the cam seal? While engine is running oil pours out. HELP!!!!!! Mike Gerber 09-28-2008, 05:10 PM Are you sure it's oil and not coolant? What color is it? Mike Brian R. 09-28-2008, 11:28 PM The most likely source of a leak in the timing belt area is the oil pump housing seal. jdmccright 09-30-2008, 12:18 AM The front crankshaft seal is nearby the water pump pulley. It is not the gusher you describe when it fails, but it and the camshaft pulley can leak quite a bit once they get old and brittle, making a mess of the entire passenger side of the engine and bay. There's an oil pump shaft seal, too, When replacing the timing belt it is good to replace these 3 seals along with it while you've got the covers off. The shaft seal is different than the pump housing seal that Brian describes (I think...correct me if I'm wrong). The oil pump housing actually makes up part of the oil pan gasket surface. If that seal fails, you'll get a lot of leakage, also. You'll have to pull off the crankshaft pulley and the lower cover to pinpoint the leak. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
