The following is out of my 02 Intrigue with 49,000 miles. I'm not a mechanic but the following is the sun gear issue that a TSB pointed to. The issue is with the missing teeth! Humm, where did they go??

Filter seems to go a fair job. What do you think?

Is this bad? :crying:

And finally...

Anyway, to a tune of $2500 bucks, I now have a hardened 4th gear shaft, and new bearings, bands, sun gear....bla-bla-bla. Other than slightly gritty, but still bright fluid, and a couple of weird symptoms (sometimes in fwd or reverse at an idle, car would need a little more gas to go) all was dandy........:runaround:

Just thought you guys would appreciate the pics...

Wow. That's a little painful to look at. I can't believe it ran fairly well like that, you'd think once things became that unbalanced, it would just rip itself apart.

You know our cars are getting kind of old and worth very little. If i ever have a tranny problem I would not spend $2500 on a fixer-upper ( so-called rebuilt). I would buy from the bone yard for $300 change the fluid and you are good to go.

I did the "Get the tranny from the wrecking yard" bit once and it bit me in the rear. First one didn't work. Second one didn't work well. Sold the vehicle. I would not recommend getting a used tranny for it. Just my 2 cents.

I'm another victim of a tranny failure in a 2000 Intriugue. (with only 65K miles) In my case, it was first showing up as a TCC Solenoid failure. After looking at what was involved to replace the solenoid, I decided to shop it out. I considered a junkyard transmission, but finally decided that since the car was long since paid for and it's the wife's daily driver ... I needed it to be reliable.

$2500 later I had a fully rebuilt tranny with fresh parts, replaced all wear items, upgraded a few things inside, etc ... and a warranty

It's all about peace of mind. I've done the junkyard swaps before, and that's always a gamble. I'd rather not gamble my wife and kid stranded on the side of the road just to save a little cash. It's just money ... they print it every day.
