I have 1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.9l. I have whined sound coming out from rear differential. I change all the bearings and is still coming out. It comes only if i push on gas pedal between 42 and 50 miles p/h. If i drive faster souds disapears. What could be wrong?

have you checked your transmission fluid level cause if it gets below a certain point you transmission will make a whining sound to tell you it needs more transmission fluid

If you have a posi diff like I do in my 01 4x4 ram then I would advise you to open it up and check everything out. make sure you have fluid, rtv sealant, and additive for the posi unit to put back in after you are done.If there is metal chunks in there then the clutch packs broke and you will need to get it fixed. if there are broke and you don't check it out you can wear out the housing to the diff and need an entire rebuild.

It has to be something else. I check everything,everything is clean. I think it has to do, something with drive gear, because they have adjustable washers from both sides, maybe they don't fit exactly how they so supposed to. Or this is just my guess, i don't known what the hek is wrong.

its good to hear you checked it out. Mine ended up being rebuilt. When you put it all back togetehr did you add the additive for the posi unit? If not there could be a whine as well.

Most likely since it's a 97 1500 , it probably just has the 9 1/4 corprate axle. Unless it's a sport off road edition? And what are you talking about adjustable washers ? You mean for the preload on the pinion shaft? Has the ring and pinion been replaced that you know of? And you didn't take that out did you? All you did was remove the cover , clean everything and replace it and the gear oil correct?

When you say you replaced the bearings, do you mean YOU physically took the carrier and pinion out and put new bearings on? Thos washers you mentioned I think (if I'm understanding you right) are the shims to adjust your gear pattern and pre-loads. If you didn't gear pattern and set up your gears properly (very in depth work, not something to be laughed at) when you changed the bearings then your rear end is going to blow up. A rear differential is one of the few parts on a vehicle you can't just yank and replace parts on willy nilly, there's alot of pressure and alot of close tolerances involved in there.
