Nissan Matic K ATF ONLY?SimGeek 09-26-2008, 02:20 PM I want to have the transmission fluid changed in my 2006 Altima 3.5SE, but the owner's manual says only Matic K can be used: "WARNING: Use only Genuine NISSAN Matic K ATF. Do not mix with other fluids. Using automatic transmission fluid other than Genuine NISSAN Matic K ATF will cause deterioration in driveability and automatic transmission durability, and may damage the automatic transmission, which is not covered by the NISSAN new vehicle limited warranty." Problem is, the stealership wants $185 for a transmission flush, and my local mechanic only charges $80! But my local mechanic says they only use a "multi-use" fluid that is good for everything but CVTs. I think it's probably a Dexron III equivalent, which would be OK for the 4 cyl. (for the 4-speed auto is says Dexron III may be used), But I'm not sure this is OK for my 5-speed auto. So does anyone know if I have to get the Matic K fluid? Or is there another compatible fluid? Thanks. nissandoc 09-27-2008, 10:08 PM The only fluid that I know will work without any problems is BG brand synthetic which is compatible with Matic K. I would be sceptic of an $80 multi use fluid flush. And $185 is in the ballpark for a BG fluid flush service. SimGeek 09-29-2008, 12:50 PM Thanks nissandoc! I had a feeling I would need to go with the Nissan fluid - I've just never had a vehicle that didn't use a Dexron compatible ATF (except my old Mercury which uses Type F!). vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
