Stalls while driving.RB200sx 09-25-2008, 07:19 PM Hey, every one. I've skimmed through all the threads posted and I have not found a similar issue as this one. I'm working on my old boss' 2000 camry with the 2.2L engine and while she is driving it stalls. I'm thinking that it could be a bad TPS. I'm leaning towards that but I could be wrong. I have yet to look at the car. I was hoping that I could get a heads up on what to test first. It's been a while since I've had to work on a Toyota, besides my 97 Rav4, due to how reliable it's been to me and all my friends that own one. I had a very similar issue with my Rav, back in 2002, where it would stall once I came to a stop. With no help from the dealer I was forced to delve into the issue and I found that the TPS was at fault. I replaced the TPS and it corrected the issue. Of course, I had to calibrate the TPS. This is why I feel that it could be the TPS on this Camry. I could still be wrong, though. I have till Saturday to get a response to this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Mike Gerber 09-26-2008, 03:54 PM If your boss' car is also dying at idle, I would try cleaning the idle air control valve before anything else. I would also clean the throttle body at the same time, just for routine maintainance. Although I would rule out a bad TPS, the idle air control valve is a more common component that will cause stalling at idle, and the only expenditure to clean it is a can of spray throttle body cleaner or O2 safe carb cleaner. Mike RB200sx 09-26-2008, 06:14 PM Thanks. It sounds about right. She had some of the guys that work for her look at it and they put in a crank sensor. I told her that it couldn't have been that because when a crank sensor fails, it fails. What you suggested is what it could be the most. I'll clean out the parts you suggested and take it from there. Again, thanks. Mike Gerber 09-27-2008, 02:11 PM If your boss' car is also dying at idle, I would try cleaning the idle air control valve before anything else. Mike You're welcome, but I must correct myself here: What I meant to say was "Although I wouldn't rule out a bad TPS..." Mike vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
