View Full Version : 1980 Audi Quattro - Restoration Project 1980 Audi Quattro - Restoration Project Viccario 09-24-2008, 05:56 PM I restored it pretty much as it came out of the box apart from lowering the ride height and using P/E wipers. It was not an easy task but I am quite satisfied with the result! At the moment it is kerbside as I have yet to complete the engine. A classic 80's legend in my opinion! http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/2876/dscf9764xg7.jpg http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/1191/dscf9765rp4.jpg http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/5166/dscf2223zo7.jpg http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/8098/dscf2225dm1.jpg http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/9599/dscf2260bn8.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/5176/dscf2226um0.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/8610/dscf2232qw2.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/816/dscf2241hs8.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/9011/dscf2245wt1.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/7807/dscf2249ou3.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/551/dscf2248xw6.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/7126/dscf2235mn4.jpg Ferrari TR 09-25-2008, 02:18 PM nice finish. almost makes me want to clean up my old dusty build, almost. Viccario 09-25-2008, 03:17 PM Just realised I forgot to do a black wash in the vents. A couple more pictures with that done. Looks a bit better I think. http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5690/dscf2282ml3.jpg http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/8900/dscf2277xp8.jpg http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/6634/dscf2273ay8.jpg http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5205/dscf2271tf7.jpg http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/2221/dscf2270am6.jpg Viccario 09-25-2008, 03:22 PM nice finish. almost makes me want to clean up my old dusty build, almost. Thanks, you should go for it! If I did another I would be tempted to go for some wider deep dish wheels (minilite type) like the tarmac rally cars used to run with! I think that would look cool! ZoomZoomMX-5 09-25-2008, 04:05 PM Nice refresh! Looks sharp, and the new stance is a big improvement. I found a reissue of the stock Quattro a few years ago for 10 bucks and am glad I got it, and hope to get it built one of these days. Slash.Snakepit 09-29-2008, 08:44 PM Very nice! I am planning on rebulding some kits and this just gave me another punch to do it! IMO the model is great but the washes in the vents just made a step further. TSiSS350 10-01-2008, 11:36 AM Just realised I forgot to do a black wash in the vents. A couple more pictures with that done. Looks a bit better I think. It would look even better with the Audi rings back on the door! Looks good though, nice resto! ketje 10-01-2008, 02:03 PM Nice restoration, however I'm more a fan of the white colour Viccario 10-01-2008, 04:53 PM It would look even better with the Audi rings back on the door! Looks good though, nice resto! Thanks, I agree but no more decals unfortunately, any offers of help appreciated! builder77 10-01-2008, 08:00 PM Nice job. How did you get parts that were glued together undone? Chris tonioseven 10-01-2008, 09:19 PM Excellent restoration!!! :sunglasse 360spider 10-01-2008, 11:35 PM Sweet resto! TSiSS350 10-02-2008, 09:19 AM Thanks, I agree but no more decals unfortunately, any offers of help appreciated! I have a set :) PM me an I will certainly ship them out to you! Viccario 10-02-2008, 01:11 PM Nice job. How did you get parts that were glued together undone? Chris Thanks, the model was originally glued with plastic poly cement which literally welds sthe surfaces together. But luckily I found that most parts were removed fairly easily. However a number of the original location pins snapped off but this was not really a problem as the parts still glued on again ok with super glue. The glass was a bit more difficult and I had to be very careful not to break it during removal, I then re-glued it with white glue followed by a small amount of superglue well away from the bits that show to avoid fogging. If you look at the WIP thread you will also see that I had problems with parts of the bodywork snapping off when handling which was strange! Hope this helps! Viccario 10-02-2008, 01:12 PM I have a set :) PM me an I will certainly ship them out to you! That's excellent, thanks a lot. I will send you a PM! ea337 10-03-2008, 01:49 AM Wow..this my favourite classic too. I built a red before. I built a red before. Enjoy Looks good but you should really start your own thread for this rather than hijack this one with that many photographs! And what is with the lizard thing on the bonnet? ea337 10-04-2008, 12:58 AM oh sorry! lizard thing? It is the 25 th anniversary symbol for audi Q. I used CF to make it. Viccario 10-04-2008, 03:25 AM oh sorry! lizard thing? It is the 25 th anniversary symbol for audi Q. I used CF to make it. That's ok. I didn't realise that about the symbol! Presumably it was chosen because lizards can go just about anywhere! Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com! Registration is absolutely free. |
