1980 Audi Quattro - Restoration Project

The first two photo's show how it was pre restoration. A bit of a mess!

I restored it pretty much as it came out of the box apart from lowering the ride height and using P/E wipers. It was not an easy task but I am quite satisfied with the result!

At the moment it is kerbside as I have yet to complete the engine.

A classic 80's legend in my opinion!

Just realised I forgot to do a black wash in the vents. A couple more pictures with that done. Looks a bit better I think.

Thanks, you should go for it! If I did another I would be tempted to go for some wider deep dish wheels (minilite type) like the tarmac rally cars used to run with! I think that would look cool!

Nice refresh! Looks sharp, and the new stance is a big improvement. I found a reissue of the stock Quattro a few years ago for 10 bucks and am glad I got it, and hope to get it built one of these days.

Very nice!

I am planning on rebulding some kits and this just gave me another punch to do it!

IMO the model is great but the washes in the vents just made a step further.

It would look even better with the Audi rings back on the door! Looks good though, nice resto!

Nice restoration, however I'm more a fan of the white colour

Nice job.
How did you get parts that were glued together undone?

Thanks, the model was originally glued with plastic poly cement which literally welds sthe surfaces together. But luckily I found that most parts were removed fairly easily. However a number of the original location pins snapped off but this was not really a problem as the parts still glued on again ok with super glue. The glass was a bit more difficult and I had to be very careful not to break it during removal, I then re-glued it with white glue followed by a small amount of superglue well away from the bits that show to avoid fogging.

If you look at the WIP thread you will also see that I had problems with parts of the bodywork snapping off when handling which was strange!

Hope this helps!

Looks good but you should really start your own thread for this rather than hijack this one with that many photographs! And what is with the lizard thing on the bonnet?

oh sorry!

lizard thing? It is the 25 th anniversary symbol for audi Q. I used CF to make it.

That's ok. I didn't realise that about the symbol! Presumably it was chosen because lizards can go just about anywhere!
