2002 ford explorer 4.0L v6 gas vin E.

had po 171&172,fuel press. 65 psi. checked for vacuum leaks, found one behind throttle body, was a rubber elbow for pcv system, repaired and cleared code.started and will idle with miss so i replaced plugs and wires, driver side had no electrodes left(seems normal burn for 163,000) orignal, yes they were.passenger side were half gone. started and still a little miss and now it idles,@500 though, but its a start. so now i check for codes again and none,no ses light.will idle and if i try to accel it will die or just starve,i can floor it and nothing no rpm`s. So i remove exhaust at manifolds and still cant accel. still the same with 2 new upstrem o2's.

Does the exhaust smell rich? Does your scan tool have a datastream mode, and if so, did you check the O2 sensors for rich or lean readings? What about the MAF sensor, does it seem to be working properly?

ok yes the exhaust does smell rich and i do have the exhaust disconnected at the manifold right now and i floor it and its goes ,ba dupe ba dupe for a min then dies. same if exhaust connected. no smoke color. yes i have datastream. one o2 was lazy so i replaced both upstream and no change in the way the truck runs but now they switch. maf, I have to recheck been days but i think was ok .I did clean it though.

maf 5.20 g/s @750 rpm. e.c.t. 90 degrees

Since the exhaust smells rich and the MAF numbers seem about right, I'd suspect an issue with the electrical system or possibly an injector that's not closing. Was 2002 the first year for CoP or did that transition occur for 2003? Maybe you have a bad coil or two. Although the diagnostics would probably pick up a misfire code.

Is your air filter plugged or clean?

This is not cop.plugs and wires new and great spark. air filter seemed new,not plugged ,but is was deformed like it wanted to get sucked up the snorkel.

If you used it for mud running I've found them plugged at the nozzle inlet.

Great info, thanks for the update. Did you by chance check the MAF readings after fixing the wire? Did they change?
