Hi. I'm new to posting, but have been lurking here for a while. Lots of good advice on this forum.
My problem is that my tranny suddenly decided not to go into second gear. I can get it there manually, but it won't go beyond that point. The overdrive light is flashing OFF on the shift lever and the Check Engine light comes on intermittently.
The truck was recently given to me by my brother who coddled it from the day it bought it in 1995. Last week we put in a new battery, computer, shackle mounts and leaf springs. Prior to that the truck sat idle for at least six months. When we started it a few weeks ago, we noticed that a squirrel had chewed through the fuel line. We replaced that. Is there anything else in that general area that could have been damaged by one of those tree rats?
I'd appreciate any feedback! Thanks :banghead:

Check the hose from the clutch master to the slave cylinder. Also check the fluid level.

Sounds like youre talking about an automatic to me too. Check all your wiring harness` real good for chewed areas. Squirrels and rats/mice love to chew on those too. Could be some bare wires getting together causing both the shifting and the check eng light problem, we have a problem with the tree rats here too. They cause thousands in damage yearly. Also check all your vacuum lines, specially the one going to the MAP sensor. Even though most of these late model trans have no vacuum modulator, vacuum still plays a part in shifting and if its running bad because of a vacuum leak it wont shift right.
