I am noticing my third gear is rebelling against participating in fast shifts. Managed to find first in lieu of third this weekend at WO in a sweeper - not recommended for fast lap times but great for entertaining the crowd! Anyway, anyone have recommendations for repair or replacement? Most of my racer buddies find rebuilt ones instead of taking one out and having it shipped our then reinstall...... These are pretty common transmissions so I am hopint easy to find nice (and cheap) rebuilt ones. James at Wirewheel tells me there is a difference in RA cars and WC cars? I thought the transmission were the same but only the bell housings were different?? Are there different ratios too?

Before you replace the tranny, check and or adjust your clutch cable, if the clutch is not fully disengaging it can make 3rd gear shifts tough. My BMW M3 had the exact same issue and it wound up being a mal adjusted clutch stop.
The transmissions in these cars were rebuilt with carbon syncro's so its not just just an off the shelf thing.

Does anyone have the complete model number of these transmissions when purchased by Panoz or is it marked anywhere on the unit. I am trying to get the gearing information on these transmissions. I want to build a spare transmission this winter to better suit my driving style. Second gear is too low and I never use it,the gap between 4th and 5 th is too great for me. I need some good input along with drbro.

Price on doing it? Mine seems fine for now, but always good to know.

Actually Dan Elliott was the person that rebuilt our transmissions at
Panoz. His shop is in Dawsonville, Georgia. He is Bill Elliott's brother
I will double check his phone number but I think it is 706-265-9999.
