91 5.7 tbi starts then diesstarrsdaddy 09-02-2008, 11:21 AM Will start, run for 10 - 20 sec. then die. I can eventually get it to run after about 5 - 8 attempts. If i drive it i have had it die on me several times in the middle of the road or at a stop light so now it's garaged. I've replace the fuel filter. Fuel pump is a few years old, maybe 30 K on it. Have tested ignition module Ok. Inspected cap, rotor, wires, connections etc... No OBD codes. Now I'm lost? maxwedge 09-02-2008, 03:53 PM Ok, it won't run, does it have spark, are the injectors spraying, will it run spraying starting fluid into the TB, all basic diagnsoitics. starrsdaddy 09-09-2008, 01:25 PM Ok, thank you for the basics. I finally had time to try this and yes, when it starts to die out I can keep it running with starter fluid. Once i keep it running for a few seconds it seems to take over and start to run properly. I'm not thinking its a fuel pump because once it runs, it runs fine. I'm thinking it has to do with whatever valves or devices regulate the fuel delivery. When it is finally running, i can watch the spray out of the nozzels and it apears to be a nice consistant spray. What do I check next? Thank for your help. Al maxwedge 09-11-2008, 04:24 PM You should check the fuel pressure, 10-13 psi is required. starrsdaddy 09-17-2008, 01:20 PM Ok, it seems my fuel pump is bad. It works intermittent. Can i install an in line electric fuel pump to avoid dropping the tank everytime this goes out? maxwedge 09-17-2008, 05:07 PM Not really the system is not designed for this, anything can be engineered but a good quality pump should cure this, make sure you do not continually run low on fuel also. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
