Black tar substance on roof of brand new truck?CanukGMC 09-01-2008, 01:25 PM I bought a 1500 ram hemi TRX4 about 2 days ago (yeah I'm pumped lol, first BRAND new truck). I was washing it this morning and did the thorough job of getting in the box and washing the roof with the intent to wax and noticed a black streak about 2" long in the dead middle of the roof. It's not paint damage or discolouration because I can feel it with my finger. I tried picking at it a bit and hit it with the pressure washer (on the delicated setting for vehicles) but it didn't budge. I know for a fact it had to be there before the purchase so I'm sure it's the dealers problem. The issue I have is that the nearest dealer is 300mi away. I'm going to email him the pictures and see what he plans on doing, my question is: Is there any safe solvent I could use to break down tar or possibly sap or glue (or whatever it is) that would be safe on a new paint? I just want to double check what you guys think in case the dealer tells me to get up there and try something on it and make sure it'd be safe to do and not make a problem worse. Any ideas would be great, here's pics: http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/2126/p1020392tk8.jpg http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/8303/p1020393cn1.jpg http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/5432/p1020394ws2.jpg CanukGMC 09-02-2008, 08:07 PM Problem solved. It appeared to be some kind of tar, we used a product called "goo gone" and slowly used it to soften the mark and eventually remove it all together. It appeared to have no adverse effect on the paint (I did wax the entire truck with a clear coat safe wax afterwards) and the mark is gone. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
