Transmission reverse problem

Have 93 Camry V6 LE transmission seems fine and strong in forward but reverse seems to be slipping the RPM goes up but the car moves but seems to slip in reverse.
Any ideas?

V6 models shoud be OBD-II compliant...you can use a scan tool to check for error codes stored in the ECM. Any parts store should be able to do this for you for free.

Factory Service manuals are stickied at the top of this forum. They outline a series of tests to perform, some requiring special tools or gauges to measure the transmission's hydraulic line pressures. But the simplest thing to check is the fluid level and its condition. It should be red and clear. If it is grayish brown and/or opaque and smells burned, it needs to be changed.

Unfortunately, '93s were all OBDI compliant.

Oops...thanks Brian...couldn't remember when the cut-off was for the I to II changeover on the V6s.
