i recently had a short in my dash lights, fixed that . had some wires naked that were grounding out in the pass. side running lights. now a day later all of a sudden the tranny is acting up. it acts like the motor is hesitating , spitting and sputtering but i can manually pull it down to 2nd and it will then shift out but start slipping in the other gears. i know its not the engine cuz i can also put it in neutral when it acts up and the engine does fine. its got to be the tranny right?? i just wanted to make sure the dash light short had nothing to do with it, probably a silly Q but had to ask.

What year and engine and transmission and mileage?
A transmission does not spit or spudder or hesitate.
Sounds like you have a engine running problem.
Check your engine running problems first.
How is the tune up end/
When was Last tune up?
On the transmission clear codes and see if that code comes back.
Post back if it does.

based on the engines operation in gear under load and I don't think it matters much exactly what model it is this appears to be igntion problems ...

if you put a tach on the engine and in gear the rpms surge then you also have a bad transmission....

if it was only your transmission failing it would slip ,, rpms would rise, and your speed will drop rapidly...

your vehicle needs lots of inspecting/troubleshooting to deterime how much is in need of repair...include any past history as well as the vehicles specific detail info...
