Cruise Control / Horn / Airbag Light Problemmsgonzo 08-27-2008, 01:35 AM I have owned my 1999 Plymouth Minivan Expresso for over 8 years. It has been a great van up until recently. Now, my cruise control will not turn, both horns do not work and a red airbag light has come on and it will not go off. These problems seem to happened all of a sudden. Any ideas on what could be the problem. Could they all be related? RIP 08-27-2008, 02:51 AM Yes and yes. Behind the horn pad in your steering wheel is what's called the clockspring. It's a coil of ribbon wire that extends and retracts as you turn the steering wheel to electrically connect all the functions in your steering wheel to the rest of the car. It has broken. Not absolutely sure but, I believe there is an extended lifetime warranty on clocksprings due to a safety recall. If so, you won't have to fork over a penny. Call the dealer to confirm. HeadlessHorseman1 08-27-2008, 01:08 PM Run your VIN through Dodge's Recall Check Procedure. The results of this check may have some bearing on your current problem and your Dealer may have to fix it FREE by law. To find out if your vehicle has any current unperformed or incomplete recalls or customer satisfaction notifications, get the last 8 characters of your VIN and go here to make sure that your vehicle has had ALL of its recall work done: http://www-5.dodge.com/webselfservice/dodge/index.jsp?screenName=recall&country=us&emailUrl=goToEmailForm%28%27R%27%29 Like RIP said, it sounds like a clockspring and Dodge may still be fixing this for free. Either way, contact a dealer. As far as I know, Dodge has to keep fixing the clockspring problem until it goes away... for free. You may also have a fuel rail recall and a fuel fill neck recall as well... both of these fixes are critically important, else your van could burn to the ground or explode at the gas pump.
