I need to see what a fuel filter is supposed to look like!

I have a '94 Chevy K3500 with 6.5 turbo diesel that I have to replace the fuel filter on. Awhile back I had bought a new one, but the truck also needed a starter so we didn't replace the fuel filter since we needed the truck to be running. This morning my diesel mechanic friend came out and we got the starter on, but when it was time to start doing the other work, he looked at the fuel filter and said it seems to be missing an O ring- so I took it back to the Fisher parts store, and the man said the O ring was built-in. But when we put it on the truck (and I have a diesel mechanic to do this correctly!) it is sucking air. So I took the filter back to the parts store for refund since he said he wouldn't have another one in stock til Monday. I went to another parts store and got the fuel filter - but when I got it home, it doesn't have a cap or anything to hold it in the cup -it is just an element! So can anyone send me a pic or diagram of what in H**L this is supposed to look like? my son had removed the old filter when I bought the first new one, and he threw the old one away. Here it is Saturday, and all the parts stores around here have closed at 12 noon. I ahve spent the last 2 hours looking on the Internet in vain. My only recourse is to go to the Chevy dealership after work on Monday and ask to see one - I know their prices will be double that of NAPA and Fisher.

Can anyone help this old lady out??? Thanks!

Welcome to AF. Not hard to find online, see this link http://info.rockauto.com/WIX/DetailWIX.htm?www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=33376

Thanks, but that's just the same thing as the element that I got from NAPA today that doesn't provide any way to keep the element inside the fuel cup! I need to see what it looks like on the truck - how does it stay inside the fuel cup/filter housing. I tried to find it on the GM and Chevy websites but no luck.

Isn't there a cannister or cover the filter fits into, how else could this be mounted? Is something missing on the engine?

The fuel filter that was taken off and discarded - and the one that is allowing air to be sucked in - fits down over the thing that the filter element sits in. But this one from NAPA doesn't fit down over the thing. So now I"ve got to go back to Fisher and get the other one - and try to figure out why it is sucking air into it. It is acting like it's missing theO ring but the Fisher guy said that it's built in. *** I GUESS I'll hve to spend gas and time to visit the local Chevy dealer and see if they will show me in their book or data base or something. But I know THEIR parts are twice as expensive.

All this because my son offered to change the oil filter, oil and fuel filter for me back in May - and got air in the lines, and ended up burning up the starter trying to get the truck started for 3 hours. So it took me over 2 months to get the $$ to get the starter - and now it's STILL not fixed.

if u turn the filter it should slide down into place and there is a black plastic ring that is supposed to screw on over the filter it does not come with the new filter you are supposed to use the old one
