Wife calls says the van when she pushes down on the gas, it barley moves, like it is not getting enough gas. The filter has not be relaced in a long time, could that be it?

She also stated that when she comes to a light, the engine idles really bad as if it is choking without fuel.

She dumped some Heat in it, it worked for a few miles, but then back to the same mushy repsonse to gas pedal.

i would be getting that gas filter on as soon as you can and after that have your fuel pump tested i think on fuel should run around 60psi.also have you changed air filter or 02 sensor latley?

No, she is my Ex wife, and I am doing a favor for her, yeah, I know, I am too nice sometime.

I will check the air and I know the o2 hasnt been changed either, I will check the pressure with my gauge tonight.

couple things come to mind, did she mention if the check engine light is on,and don't know what mileage is on it or what motor but could be sticking/defective EGR valve(may not set code) or dirty throttle body.Bad plugs and wires can contribute also.

Replaced the O2 sensor and it still misfires all over the place. I guess the next thing would be plugs?

We all need to know which engine you have. Do you see the service engine light coming on? Have you checked for codes yet? Two ways, the key dance or a scanner. Autozone will scan it for free.

Go to Auto Zone for a free code scanning.

The cheapest thing you can do (next to a free Auto Zone scan) is to add some more HEET, Water Out, Dry Gas to the tank, if she got really low on gas and condensation entered the tank it may take a couple of bottles of this stuff to fully homogenize the fuel. year ago my daughter would never put more3 than 1/4 tank of fuel in her Mustang II and it reall ygot the coughing shakes, I dropped the tank and dumped it out and got about one quart of what smelled like gas but looked like water, after tahty all was well.

PROBLEMS------

1ST- WHEN WE START THE CAR THE RPM JUMPS UP AND DOWN UNTIL WE GET A GOOD ENOUGH SPEED.

Looks like you have a little bit of everything going on and some of the codes are interrelated.

Here's a couple links that speak directly to a couple of your codes:
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0171
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0131

The P0700 code is saying , "hey! you've got a problem in the transmission control circuit somewhere, not sure where, but somewhere". The P0740 code is waving a red flag and saying " forget that P0700 code and take a look at your torque converter clutch circuit". There is a solenoid that engages and disengages the torque converter at aroud 40 mph. It may not be working or there may be a problem with it's connection or wire harness.

P1297 is a MAP sensor issue and may be causing your P0171 code.

Though your issue is somewhat related to the original post, it's always best to start your own thread to get yourself the most attention. Try to remember to do that next time. That way you are out there front and center and not burried in somebody elses thread. Plus it's tougher for the contributors to focus on one guys issue if you have multiple issues going on in the same thread. Thanks.
