White smoke in 2000 Grand Am

I have a 2000 pontiac Grand Am with a 2.4l 4-cylinder engine, with approximately 130,000 miles on it. When I start it it idles very rough for a couple of minutes and then runs fine. I've noticed that when it is idling rough, there is white smoke coming out the exhaust. It will continue to smoke when I accelerate, but after awhile there is no smoke. Also, The coolant seems to be leaking very slowly as well as I have to fill it about every 2 months and drive about 2,000 miles a month. What could my problems be?, and any estimates on repairs, I live in Michigan.

Hard to say exactly why its smoking.
It could be a rich fuel condition on start up possibly the down stream o2 failing.
Or you have a coolant leak into the cylinder(s) and that'll smoke too. If thats the issue the head gasket could need replaced, a compression test might show more details.

You can test your O2 sensors, here is a link.

i think you got a blowen head gasket or tranny module.take plugs out and you'll see the plug that has antifreeze on it and do compresion test on it also.

I took it to the shop and it was the head gasket, just a small leak. It will cost about $950 to fix it. They looked at the engine and it looks surprisingly in good shape. I've seen posts that say people were getting charged 1,200 to 1,500 for their head gasket repairs, so I guess I can't feel too bad
