What was the first bike you rode on the street?72chevelleOhio 08-16-2008, 02:54 AM My effort to keep AF somewhat alive....:frown: What was the first bike you ever rode on the street? Mine was a 1973 Honda CB350. Faded red paint, but otherwise good condition.....Heres a twist. I was about 13 and it was January. I lived out in the country, the parents werent home from work yet, sister at basketball practice.....it was a warm 38ish degrees (thats F not C lol) No snow on the roads and it was melting in the fields. I went almost 10 miles the first go 'round....came back freezing and loving it. I still knew the bike was a dog. It took a good quarter mile to hit 60. I was like "man if this thing was fast, this would be soooo cool" (not just because it was cold outside either :p ) Till this day, I remember the fade marks in the paint from years of spilled gas.....and I can't remember what I did at work today. speediva 08-16-2008, 10:48 AM Does riding as a passenger count? If riding as a passenger counts, then the first bike I rode on was (I think) my dad's early 90s Yamaha FJ1300. I remember it had that awful early 90s paint scheme with white and pink and purple... maybe some teal thrown in for good measure. My dad would take me around on the back of his bike on a fairly regular basis - he would even take me to soccer practice on it! I imagine I was about 8 years old or so... but being that I've always been tall, I'm sure I rode on it before then... that's just my first memory of it. As for piloting... the first time I drove a street bike was back in 02. It was a brand spankin new BMW F650GS with the black and white Dakar edition paint scheme. It was a single cylinder thumper, but was pretty forgiving. I had ridden dirtbikes as a kid and after I spilled on it, I gave up riding and didn't ride for years. Then - about a decade later - my dad brings home the first street bike he'd had in at least as long and my first thought was "man, I remember that being really cool" and the rest is history. richtazz 08-16-2008, 12:44 PM As pilot, the first bike I ever rode on the street was a 1973 Yamaha DT125 Enduro (it had sat in the shed for 10+ years and I decided to get it running again). It would get to 70 mph if you tucked in and didn't vibrate off, but it was better suited to 45-50'ish commutes. It got great mileage (70+ mpg) and help me to attain my place in infamy. My first bike ever was a Honda 50 dirt bike, the one with the indestructible plastic front fender. The first time I rode it, I popped the clutch, did a wheelie and t-boned the Yamaha, breaking that indestructible fender in three pieces. I actually had a plaque from Honda as the first to break one. They couldn't believe that I did it in above freezing temps as they had done every torture test imaginable. As a 7 year old, when the Honda rep explained all the testing they had I done before giving me the plaque, I chimed in "obviously you never hit a Yamaha DT125 with one". I thought my dad and him were gonna piss there pants they were laughing so hard. I remember it like it was yesterday. My first ride as a passenger was on my Uncle's CB750 choppper. It had a custom mural on the tank with a road that did a loop then vanished in air, it was pretty cool!!! aussieidiot 08-17-2008, 01:50 AM 1991 Yamaha FZR250RR It was my first bike. I'd been on dirt bikes and as a passenger on a Katana with a flip up headlight as a kid but me as a pilot...... http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/171274sigfzr.jpg MagicRat 08-18-2008, 11:37 AM I grew up on dirt bikes. Actually this week end I took the time to fix the rear tire tube on my first bike, a 1975 Suzuki TM75. (I first rode it in... 1975) I kept it over the years even though I have ridden it about twice since 1980. So it was a trip down memory lane to putt around on it. My first 'street' bike ride was actually a dual purpose machine, a 1980(?) Honda XL 250, borrowed from a friend. I was surprised because my 1979 Honda XR 185 was actually a faster machine. Although the 250 was obviously larger, it had given up performance in order to be smooth and quiet. oldblu65 08-24-2008, 06:14 PM The first bike , I ever rode , was a 1978 Yamaha 650 twin . I bought it new and the dealership sat next to a very busy six lane highway with a red light just 200 feet from the dealership driveway . I bought it in the late afternoon and left there pulling into the " rush hour " traffic ! This dealership was located about 1/4 mile from a large shopping mall which added much to the congestion . I lived about 3 miles from there and somehow survived all that madness and arrived home in one piece ! That bike was my initiation to the biking community and I enjoyed every second that I rode it !:runaround: 4x4 blazerguy 08-24-2008, 11:02 PM A 1969 Triumph Daytona 500. t_arnold 01-23-2009, 11:05 AM Mine was a 1975 Honda CL360. They had a dual range 5 speed gearbox for a total of 10 forward gears. A good looking Jap standard bike for their day. I agree with Aussie, post us some pics here!! dghawk 03-08-2009, 09:56 AM 1981 Yamaha SR250T. That was about 20 years ago...still have that bike!!! coppersv1000s 03-08-2009, 01:47 PM The first bike i rode was an 80 somehin honda nighthawk or shadow. it was in a church parking lot. My own first bike was a sv650! i miss that lil bike. quick69gto 04-19-2009, 03:20 PM My first was a '75 Suzuki GT-250 way back in 1978-79 (I was 16-17 years old). Progressed on to an '80 Wide Glide, then a '78 Electra Glide, and then a couple of Harley based customs that I put together myself. The last couple of bikes was a 1996 Heritage Classic and the bike I own now is a 1999 Kawasaki Vulcan VN1500A. I'll never go back to Harleys after riding the Kawasaki over the last several years. I was never left stranded on the side of the road with the Kawasaki. I have never owned more than one bike at a time but that might change here in the near future. I'm looking for a 2000-2008 Kawasaki Nomad for two up riding and I will bob the 1500A just for the hell of it. Now that I think of it, paint the bobbed 1500A the same silver as my '69 GTO. They would make a nice pair at a car show. I think that's what I'll do.:iceslolan vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
