Okay, I'm not sure if this in the right place. (Because i didn't know where to start with all of the forums)

My jeep runs good...
Idles good.
But when you step into the gas it chokes out like the gas were being cut off.
Now, I'm pretty sure that the fuel pump needs replaced. But before i start buying parts I thought I would ask a few experts.

So, what do ya think?
Try the fuel pump?

I found an "okay" way to check it without a fuel pressure gauge is to pull the line off at the carb. Attach a rubber hose long enough to point into a can or bucket (or point the hose at someone you dont like :evillol: )and have someone crank the engine over. If the gas shoots out pretty far then its probably not the fuel pump. (Like maybe an accelerator pump in carb?)

I guess I should put a "safety warning" on that...
.....if anyone is smart enough to take a line off, hopefully they are not dumb enough to let gas splash all over themselves, a hot engine or ignition source etc...

....thats all I got.

WOO HOO!!!!!!
I love these Waggies!!
I used to have a '77 Wagoneer with the ultra - rare 401 cid V8. The worst thing I ever did was to sell it, (years ago)
I have been looking for another ever since, but they all rusted away around here.

All the fuel pump does is full up the carburetor float bowl. If the bowl is full enough to idle, then its' probably okay.
I think you have a carburetor problem. Most carburetors, like yours have 3 or 4 separate systems or methods of getting fuel into the engine.
They are:
Idle circuit.
Primary circuit
Secondary circuit (if the carb has 4 barrels, or is the progressive 2 barrel type)
Accelerator pump circuit.

The engine speed, load and throttle opening determine which one is being used.
Since it idles fine, your idle circuit is okay.
However, as you step on the gas, the carb is designed to transfer the fuel draw from the idle circuit to the primary circuit. Therefore, this circuit (probably the main jets) may be plugged with dirt, debris, rust etc.

It is also possible that the accelerator pump circuit is bad, too.

So I would suggest installing a professionally rebuilt carburetor and replacing the fuel filter.

If you open the carb and find the float bowl is full of rust debris, consider removing and cleaning out the inside of the fuel tank, so the new carb is not plugged up again.

BTW these Waggies are called "Full Size Jeeps" (FSJ for short)
