90 accord, engine light on, tach not working and loss of powerRob8651 08-09-2008, 08:28 PM I have a 90 accord and recently the engine light went on. I noticed the tach wasnt working and on hard accelerations, the vehicle hesitates and will not accelerate. If i back off and accelerate slowly, it will accelerate. I do not have a unit to check the code and the auto stores that do it for free cannot check the codes on a honda older than 96. Anyone have an idea of what the problem could be? I was thinking a VSS or TCM. I got the code and it is 4 - Crank angle sensor. does anyone know how to replace the Crank angle sensor and where is it? Thank you somick 08-11-2008, 01:28 PM I think it is a part of a distributor. Haynes manual should give you more details. Good luck, Sam jeffcoslacker 08-11-2008, 02:45 PM As far as I remember, the crank sensor in those was actually what would be considered a cam position sensor by anyone else...it's in the base of the distributor. I believe it does supply a tach signal, and with loss of signal from the sensor the PCM will go to limp mode and limit engine revs to like 3500 rpm or something... Sorry I can't be more specific, but that seems right... jeffcoslacker 08-11-2008, 02:51 PM Autozone's part locator seems to agree with my memory... On your 1990 Honda Accord 2.2L FI , the Crankshaft Position Sensor is located: http://www.autozone.com/images/template_images/clearpixel.gif Under hood, passenger side, front engine area, mounted in distributor If the inside of the cap and dizzy base are all powdered with rust colored dust, the bottom bearing in the distributor is failing, and it'll seize soon. Sometimes that oxide dust will foul magnetic/inductive sensors too, and they act up before it breaks... If you see this replace the whole thing... alshane 08-11-2008, 10:40 PM you can check around on ebay and i found a new honda distributor (100% complete and ready to drop in) for under $150.00 vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
