Right Front Axle

I have to replace the right fron axle because the outer CV boot has cracked. Any suggestions to make it easier before I begin. I recently replaced the wheel hub. I think while doing that I saw that if I remove the caliper, rotor, and wheel hub and move the spindle out of the way that I should be able to slide the axle right out.
Thanks
Thanks

actually you dont need to touch the caliper or brakes just remove wheel (make sure you jack it up by the frame- get it high)remove the center hud nut (36mm) and the tierod to spindel nut disconnect the tierod end. remove cotter pin in castle nut and then the castle nut (for lower ball joint) pry down on control arm til spindle lifts off the ball joint then pull spindel til cv axle is out of spindel then turn spindel out of your way it may be you have to tap the cv end to get it out. then you just pull the axle out. you may have to pry it out where it goes in to the trans. hope that helps.

I do the procedure what jd-autotech does and is easy too.Sometimes persuation is needed tap with a hammer and do not use a pickle fork.I call the picklefork "boot destroyers".The outer tierod nut in the knucle sometimes doesn't come off all the time and heat from an oxy/acetelyne torch is need to get off the rest of the way if it is the original one.

I just replaced the wheel hub and outer tie rods so I am sure everything will come apart ok. I still think taking the rotor and hub off and taking the outer tie rod lose will allow me to push the axle back and remove. I just did not know if there was anything odd that I would run into. Thanks for all the help.

well theres another trick so you wont have to destoy your boot.where the tierod is going threw the hub you can take a hammer and smack right beside it on hub where the tierod is running threw and it will let loose try that next time on any front wile drive.

The tierod does not go through the hub. The axle goes through the hub.

I didn't see anyone mention it above, but after you have the axle free from the a-arm, you need a slide hammer to remove it from the tranny. There is a C ring that expands around the shaft and clips the shaft pretty tightly into the tranny.
For me, it was the hardest part of the job to get that axle out of the tranny--almost a show stopper. It may be since you don't care about destroying the old axle that you can just whack away on the old CV joint to beat the shaft out, but I had to go obtain a big slide hammer and weld up a special fork that would fit around the shaft where it enters the tranny.
