View Full Version : ABS light, no fan, no cruise, no 4wd light ... ABS light, no fan, no cruise, no 4wd light ... M.T. Livewell 08-08-2008, 10:22 AM 99 tahoe 4wd 4 door, 5.7. I have an intermittent problem ... When I start the tahoe, no lights are on all seems fine. However, once I get up to about 15 to 20km/h hour, my abs light comes on. At this point, the 4wd indicator lights go out (but still seems to drive fine in 2wd). Cruise does not work. Blower fan and heat adjustments does not work. Heated seat does not work. A bit of history. I had a top terminal battery with side terminal adapters to work with the tahoe. Recently found that one of the adapters was stripped, so I replaced it. All battery connections are tight, and in fact I have a new battery in there now too. Also, while driving recently, I had abs light and service 4wd light on. As I slowed done, 4wd light went off. As I sped up, light came back on. As I slowed down again, light went off. Then, for some reason, everything corrected itself (even abs light went off) and everything was working again (heated seat, fan, heat adjust, etc), until I turned it off and back on, then the abs light started all over again. It is clearly an electrical problem. I suppose it could be one of several problems. All fuses appear to be good. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Bill j cAT 08-08-2008, 08:40 PM I have a doozy and would appreciate any idea where to start. 99 tahoe 4wd 4 door, 5.7. I have an intermittent problem ... Thanks Bill because these circuits are not common to each other I would carefully check every body ground by removing cleaning and resecuring...make sure the battery is disconnected before doing this!!!!! if your lucky this will save you plenty.. M.T. Livewell 08-12-2008, 09:19 AM Thanks j cAT. I've been on a bit of a lucky streak and the things seems to working OK (for now). I just know that the minute I'm gonna need 4wd or the fan and heat something will hiccup. I'll take a look and let you know if I find anything. Bill M.T. Livewell 09-26-2008, 03:34 PM Well I couldn't find the problem so I finally dragged the truck into my neighborhood mechanic (a real nice guy and someone I trust). He traced the wiring problem back to the ignition switch. I don't think it was the original switch and I don't think it was wired up properly by the crooked used car dealer I bought the truck from (but that is another story). So, a new switch installed and everything is working just fine. Now, onto the tranny/ transfercase gasket leak and the stuck hydrolic lifter ... *sigh*. I love this truck when it is working, I just wish it treated me a little better. Thanks for the replies. Livewell 09-29-2008, 09:00 AM 185 000 Kms, so just a little over 100 000 miles. So, just to clarify after picking up the tahoe. It was not the actual ignition switch, but rather a wiring harness about 2' long that connects the ignition back to the fuse panel. My mechanic showed me a wiring diagram where one common wire (brown) fed all of the accessories noted above. Not a cheap piece of hardware either ... $240 for the little harness. But, I am glad to report, everything is working as it should (well, at least related to that problem). Still on the to do list: Leaky seal between transfer case and tranny Knocking/ sticky valve Coolant leak at the water pump And a really bouncy ride that I attribute to old shocks, thinking some new heavy duty units should help with the body roll over the bigger potholes.
