1994 grand am tranny

after shifting from park to drive or reverse, tranny will sometimes not engage. shifting back to park and waiting a minute or two and then trying again usually works. once its in gear seems to be no problem while driving. would appreciate any suggestions as i am sure problem could get worse. thnx

I would check the shifter cable under the hood and in the console(under the shifter), it could be loose.
If everythings ok with that, it could be internal trans damage. :yikes:
