im confused now, the inside of my driver door says its an '84, but the thread about "Z history" says t tops didn't come on z's until '86...my step dad says it was made in japan in 84 and was imported to the U.S. in '86 so....is this right? (my 300zx has t tops)

u have a 17 digit vin number, i'm not a zx guy but there's likely a website that breaks down the vin number and will tell u, where it was built, what year it was built in, and some other select things.

if not theres a way to tell what year, either the 9th or 10th digit is a letter, that letter coresponds with a yr, that yr is the build yr.

And yes 1984 model Z31s had T-Tops... it was rare, but they had them.

'84's came slicktop or t-top, t-top was an option. 85's t-tops were standard
