Hey,
I am the proud owner of a used 2001 honda accord. I just bought it yesterday! It is the VP model and has 62000 miles on it, it is a 4 cylinder. THe car was a one owner car and the title was clear. It seems like the owner took good care of it from what I can tell. I am not knowledgeable in regards to cars and had a question concerning shifting. I am also the type of person that always tends to worry about things after I buy them especially if they are used. My main question is in regards to the 4 cyclinder and shifting. I have noticed that sometimes the car seems to shift a little bit rougher when shifting to what I think is 1st gear into 2nd gear. I noticed it's mainly when I am accelerating faster and pushing down on the pedal more. It doesn't do it as much when I am not accelerating slowly. I began to become worried after reading that some people have had issues with the 2001 accord and the transmission. However, I wasn't sure if it could just be that I am not used to driving a 4 cylinder and it's just that the engine is working harder. When not pushing it hard it shifts at around 2.5 RPM. When accelerating faster is shifts at around 3.0 to 3.5 RPM's. It just seems a little harder then normal, but like I said, it may just be the 4 cylinder aspect and the fact that it's not going to accelerate as well. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

so i take it you got a 5 speed? my son he started out on a honda 5 speed.but when you get it up in first you just shift it with one finger back that's then from second you can use againd 1 finger to pull it back and so on..put it go's all in a pateren that's why on finger so you don't grind the gears..you got a good deal on honda they'll for ever if you keep maintance on it...

if its auto its normal. when your accel. or putting on a load on the engine the trans tends to shift harder than when lightly accel. i believe its called shift shock. if it was a cvt trans then you wouldnt have that problem.

Hey,

Thanks for the response, that does put my mind at ease. I guess I'm just not use to it shifting slightly harder than my previous automobile. Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Kevin

Hondas have aLWAYS had a neck snapping 1-2 shift, especially under hard throttle...they wind high and shift hard. Learn to enjoy it...

I've heard this concern from just about everyone who ever drove one for the first time...

Thanks Jeff, good to hear that I'm not the only one whose had that concern! I will learn to enjoy it! I love the car so far and hope to have it for many, many, many years! Thanks again for your responses!
