DerXL 07-28-2008, 12:44 PM Indeed a great start to one of the 'real' DTM cars, from a period when it was fun (at least in my eyes) to watch the DTM races. Your parts look very clean and well done. I'll sure be following this build ! MidMazar 07-28-2008, 06:54 PM Mmmmmm keep us posted. AAlmeida 07-29-2008, 03:46 PM Thank you all for the nice comments, I am returning to the hobby after a long time without setting up anything, then I am catching the way again, but if you think I need some clue, please do it. Indeed a great start to one of the 'real' DTM cars, from a period when it was fun (at least in my eyes) to watch the DTM races. I agree Axel So, a small updating, I began to put some color on it. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-4.jpg after Tamiya compound http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-12.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-13.jpg First time using automotive paint. godfather23 07-29-2008, 04:38 PM This is looking awesome. FABIO. AAlmeida 08-21-2008, 12:45 PM Very nice w.i.p. I built this model in 1997 and following your wip, I really want to rebuild my Mercedes. Keep it up!! FABIO. Thank you Fabio! Well, while some things to detail the car I bought still didn't arrive, I will venture in "manufacturing" this piece. I will reproduce this part that is under the blue pin, I believe that is some piece related to the radiators. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-43.jpg Expired credit card, sanded and cut in three parts http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-42.jpg I used the Pro Weld bought on eBay, join the pieces, it is going for capillarity and it glues in 10s, very good. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-41.jpg Here already cut in the proportional size http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-40.jpg Tamiya putty http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-39.jpg I rounded the corners http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-38.jpg After sanded... http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-37.jpg It starting to shape up AAlmeida 08-23-2008, 08:14 PM Continuing... More to come... :iceslolan So nice and CLEAN detailing here  Robi Thank you Robi, I am going slowly and patient... I am enjoying the model. Wow, amazing detail! How did you create the red tubing? Thank you JTninja! The tubing was painted of flat black enamel, later airbrushed with two mist flat red enamel and finally a wash with acrylic flat black with the proportion of about 1:5 (paint:solvent) and I clean the relief with a cloth. After that I dry brushed flat red again over the tubing. suzuki3000# 08-26-2008, 01:42 AM very clean awesome build where did u get the seat belts AAlmeida 08-26-2008, 07:10 AM very clean awesome build where did u get the seat belts Thank you suzuki3000#! I bought the seat belts from Strada Sports (http://www.stradasportsstore.com/page46.html) and they are made by Eduard and the package has two sets. AAlmeida 08-28-2008, 07:58 AM Small updating, I have tried solve the problem of mask to paint the windows of the car. I copy the lines on a transparent sheet, I redrew the outlines in the computer and I printed in those self-adhesive labels. As those labels are horrible, I glued them on a Tamiya masking tape. Here is the result. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-69.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-60.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-59.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-58.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-57.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-65.jpg and finished this one http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-70.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-66.jpg Rye 21 08-28-2008, 06:10 PM Dude, I love the engine bay!!!! I Like the little tanks you made and that little box out of old credit cards....lol. Looks great, I want to build one of these next after I build my Ferrari 330.... Keep up the good work!!! :) AAlmeida 08-31-2008, 07:32 PM Dude, I love the engine bay!!!! I Like the little tanks you made and that little box out of old credit cards....lol. Looks great, I want to build one of these next after I build my Ferrari 330.... Keep up the good work!!! :) Thank you Rye 21. I am trying add more details even not having no reference until the book of DTM I bought arrive. I began to detail the interior, I think these wire too thin, What do you think? http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-72.jpg Seat belts from Eduard, they are made of metal, any rub it take away the red color, I need re-touch on some points. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-71.jpg stevenoble 08-31-2008, 08:04 PM Really great to follow your progress on this one.The seatbelts look very realistic.I have used them myself and they are a little fragile, but they look fantastic when assembled.Keep the updates coming..!!!! godfather23 09-01-2008, 03:22 PM Great looking progress. The chassis is spot on. Nice paint job you did on it. About the seat belts...I have been there before. Just touching them with your nails make the metal become visible - such a hazzle to get it right... The masking template idea is great - I just copy yourf idea for upcoming projects! Robert DasWiesel 09-01-2008, 03:38 PM Always like to see an update here. Fantastic work and very good pictures. Thickness of wires is fine for my taste, but you should fix them to the floor at some points. daniel_k 09-02-2008, 09:58 AM great, that is just perfect...very nice subject. I really love the yellow paint, looks "fresh" :-) daniel -germany- AAlmeida 09-02-2008, 01:31 PM stevenoble - Thank you! You are right they are very realistic to me too, but very fragile. More to come very soon. Robert - As the kit do not have windshield mask we have to improvise and this way works very nice. I am glad the idea is helpful. Try once and you will like the result. Julian - Thank you for the comments. Other friends told me the thickness is accurate for electrical wires. I will fix the cables to the floor. How is the best way you think to fix them? daniel - I have others DTM cars, but the yellow mercedes is my favorite. Thank you!, There is some issues here and there that is not showed in the pictures, but I am trying to do my best. Rye 21 09-02-2008, 02:53 PM Thank you Rye 21. I am trying add more details even not having no reference until the book of DTM I bought arrive. I began to detail the interior, I think these wire too thin, What do you think? The wire looks good to me, I know what you mean by no reference... I never build with it...lol. I just build with my mind, not pictures and the such:grinyes: Duncan1098 09-02-2008, 06:01 PM This is one amazing build, I love all the extra detail, great job on the paint work. The interior looks good to me, if you scaled down the wiring it would be that thickness. love the colour aswell. astonut 09-04-2008, 07:25 PM Great build! I just sourced myself one of this kits... so excited! Now I would like to ask where did you find your reference photos? I've been trying to find it online but they are all just exterior, any interior and engine bay shots from the internet? Cheers cameraboy5 09-04-2008, 08:33 PM Outstanding Job! I'm so glad I found this website because the amount of talent here is fantastic! I have learned so many new techniques from you builders. Keep up the great work! I'll be watching as I try to apply these techniques to my builds. Thanks DasWiesel 09-05-2008, 07:46 AM How is the best way you think to fix them? I have to admit, i´m not that experienced in detailing race cars. Maybe i would take some bare-metal stripes and super-glue. AAlmeida 09-06-2008, 12:27 PM Rye 21 - Ok, I will keep the wire thickness. This is the "plastispirit" finish without reference, just enjoy the modeling... :grinyes: Duncan1098 - Thank you! astonut - Unfortunately no photos so far, it is very hard to find inside cars pictures from this era. Just let your imagination work for you... :grinyes: cameraboy5 - Thank you! I have learned a lot here too. (http://www.abebooks.com/) I hope you have the same luck I had. godfather23 09-19-2008, 12:21 PM I´m still admiring this paint and decal job. Will you add the CF you see in the reference pictures to your build - f.ex. on the middle console...? Robert AAlmeida 09-19-2008, 08:46 PM Robert - Thank you. No I won't, mine was painted black... :iceslolan the book arrived few days ago and the interior is almost done, so I won't change this time. Small reportage about what is happening. First the front dropped and the paint cracked up the headlight, I have to mask very carefully because of decal already applied. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-84.jpg and the repaint done http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-83.jpg As everything is being an experience, right and wrong, I will to add the side light instead to paint the piece. So, when I opened the hole the bare-metal gone, and I have to start over again. Picked a 0.80mm fishing line and paint with Tamiya orange clear, we will see how it looks after installation, but I liked the result so far. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/Tamiya-Mercedes-Promarkt-Zakspee-82.jpg Tomorrow I will have new pictures. Hello gasdriverca After spray the color I use the coarse compound from Tamiya to bring the shine then I apply the decals and, if the weather cooperate, I will clear coat the body., so I clear cote just once after all. AAlmeida 10-28-2008, 06:04 AM Clear coat done http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/2710-001.jpg I need to fix the paint stripped when I polish, no problem because I need repaint with flat black. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/2710-003.jpg Hope to finish next weekend. godfather23 10-28-2008, 03:27 PM Nice clear coat, looks like there is no need for polishing this one??
