View Full Version : red protect light red protect light bmorebuick88 07-27-2008, 06:24 PM now here are some of the things that i think made the light come on. 1 alright i found the subs and box in the junkyard, and it had tweeters and speakers custom built into the box, but i didnt want my amp to play music because it would try to play out the subs and mess them up, so i set it where its just bass coming from the subs, seeing as though the tweeters and speakers were useless and just absorbing power that could go to the subs, i decided to cut the wire. in each chamber it was two wires connected to one gold piece and you hooked that to each sub, i made it just so its just the bass wire going to each sub, but i just let the other wires sit inside the chamber and didnt put any electrical tape on the ends of it, im thinking that maybe while i was driving the wires touched somehow and shortciruited in the chamber, dont know if is possible though. 2 i went to work and parked my car, i had to find something in the backseat so i turned on the light by the back window, and left it on by mistake for 9 hours. can there be any correlation between low battery life and the red light coming on? once again im not really an expert on none of this stuff, i just want to put everything i remember out there, so i might sound like an idiot on some of this stuff lol 3 now that i got the amp power just playing to the subs and not being wasted on the tweeter and speakers, was it to much of a power jump that messed the amp up? 4 bad ground ? i have my amp grounded to a part just underneath where my trunk latches shut, is that a good place to ground it. one time my friend used a voltmeter and he said everything had checked out, so it might not be the ground. the same thing was happening to my friends power acoustik amp, but all he had to do was turn the car off, let it cool down, and just play his songs at a lower volume. if you think one of the reasons above is why the light came on and my subs arent getting power could you elaborate more, or if it isnt could you tell me some additional things that might cause that to happen. edit- to hel and try to clarify it more, i just cut the tweeter and speaker wire two days ago, and my subs was working until yesterday afternoon, but coming from work today i turned on my headunit and a song on my sd card always plays automatically, it started and i heard the bass(so i thought it was fixed) so i turned to another song after like 5 seconds and i knew the bass was gone, because it was the song late night tip and nothing was rumbling(well my stock car speakers were, but it was nothing compared to when i had the subs workin) PaulD 07-28-2008, 07:06 PM you may have blown the subs ..... how did you set the gains on the amp ? Are you using any type of crssover ? The drained battery may have caused the amp to be damaged. Really hard to tell over the net. Try connecting another sub(s) to the amp. bmorebuick88 07-30-2008, 01:15 AM you may have blown the subs ..... how did you set the gains on the amp ? Are you using any type of crssover ? The drained battery may have caused the amp to be damaged. Really hard to tell over the net. Try connecting another sub(s) to the amp. i dont think the subs are blown, they started playing again but after like 20 minutes it cut out again, then i let my car sit for a couple hours, played like two songs today (dead prez-hip hop, straight bass, and another bassy song) and it cut out, so i drove the whole way home without any music :banghead: is there any way to recharge a battery that isnt completely dead? PaulD 07-30-2008, 06:10 PM a battery charger if you think you're battery isn't completely recharging go to autozone and have them check your battery and alternator. bmorebuick88 08-07-2008, 07:45 PM dont know if this made much of a difference, but i unmounted the amp from the top of the sub box and set it behind it because i opened the trunk and played some of the songs i normally played and i would see the amp jumping up and down because i guess it wasnt screwed down tight enough. ever since i put it behind the sub i havent had the problem anymore.
