I am the owner of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V6 with about 120,000 miles on it. I think the power lock on the driver's door is about to go out. It currently works, but it makes a loud, quick screeching sound whenever activated. Does anyone know what this might be?

I think you answered your own question, almost certainly a failing door lock actuator.
The screeching is the mechanism giving out.
