Mass airflow sensor hickup

Recently, my '93 escort has been displaying its check engine light. Once I clean the m.a.s. according to this

http://www.fordf150.net/howto/clean-maf-mass-airflow-sensor.php

The sensor stays off for a few yards or a few miles, but comes back on. I've tried running KOER checks but keep getting a "didn't goose the throttle enough" error. I will try with another tester tomorrow and post the results, just seeing if anyone has any other advice other than getting a new/reman m.a.s.

Thank you.

Are you certain you are doing it correctly and are revving the throttle at the time the code reader tells you to? There is a specific time to do it... just floor it and release, nice and quick.

Apparently not. I've had another person try the test too with the same result. I have acquired a code reader from a coworker and will try that tonight.

I'm probably talkin' out of my a** here but since you are getting the "failed to goose it" message I wonder if the throttle position sensor is bad? If it was bad the computer might not know you've goosed it.

I dunno about ONLY CRC Contact cleaner. Sounds like an ad for the stuff. I..and many others have used Windex,Carb(intake/t.body) cleaner, brake cleaner, Seafoam..both bottle and spray. I dunked one and left it in a cup full of Seafoam for a while. I got a magnifying glass and could see..even after I cleaned it/gently/spray/Q tip.. it was NOT clean. Haha..the thing was no good anyway..so I dunked it. Worked perfect after that. All of the above work fine. You are taking it out of the housing to clean it right? (Tamper proof Torx) And cleaning the little ports in the housing too?
There are tsb's about these in those years..93ish.
I'ld clean if..maybe dunk it in Seafoam..if that doesn't work..do a wiggle test of the connections.
Failing that..get another from the bone.

Yes, I took the sensor off the car and sprayed the living daylights outta it. I'll see if I can find the TSBs. Tonight I'll use this code checker and see if I can successfully get the test done.

Thanks for the help thus far.

Now a code reader gives "the vehicle didn't respond". Seems like the terminals may be messed up or something, I don't know.

I found a TSB for the m.a.s., gonna talk to a Ford dealer later today and see what they say.

I tried soaking the sensor in seafoam and I still get the check engine light. I still can't get a proper code reading, I keep getting insufficient rpm change during KOER test. I'll look into getting a reman or yard sensor.

Make sure there are no air leaks in that rubber bellows leading from the MAF sensor to the throttle body.
