Radiator Problemsaukster 07-15-2008, 02:10 PM Hey all. I have a 1999 Jeep grand cherokee laredo. Back in Jan 08 I had to replace radiator due to leaking around the plastic tubes(tanks, jugs or whatever you want to call it). This past week had to replace it again for same reason. My question is, Is there something that is causing this? Does your radiator build up pressure, if so is it enough to cause the things to come lose from the aluminum part of the radiator? What can I do to solve the problem, if there is one. Also I am looking for a drivers seat for it if anyone knows where I can go to look for one. Thanks Bob D. 07-16-2008, 07:28 AM The tank to core seal is where they usually fail, but not after 6-7 months. Is it after market or OEM? dksob81 07-16-2008, 05:31 PM I have a 98 5.9limited and had this same problem replaced radiator about 5 times (3 times in just 2 weeks), then I replaced my headgaskets and put on a new radiator cap (13lbs, stock is 18 lbs), even in my old jeep (94 Grand Cherokee 5.2L) I replaced the radiator 3 times in the 4 years I had it and always had a slow leak, had to top the coolant off about every month, but could never find the leak, but now I think it was probably the side tank was leaking slowly in it as well. well after I did the headgaskets and put the lower radiator cap on I haven't a single problem nor have I lost any coolant. Now the headgaskets shouldn't cause the side tanks to leak like mine did, although it would cause the internal pressure to climb faster the radiator cap shoul dopen to release the pressure, but I even replaced the cap twice with 16lbs caps and still had the problem, so apparently the radiator was designed to hold 16lbs of pressure. And my radiators, well the last 3, were VISTEON brand radiators and are OEM approved. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
