Ford Falcon GTHO Ph 3malscar 07-15-2008, 05:17 AM This is a project that I really don't know where this thread should be. I will explain. This is a kit. But it is also a diecast model:screwy: . The main tools required to put this together is a screwdriver and glue. Fine detailing can be done so other more normal modelling tools will be used. What I have here is a 1/8th (yes 1/8th!) scale diecast kit. Designed and sold here in Australia by Icon Models. They sell for AUD995:eek: To keep costs down, the buyer puts it together. It is prepainted, detailed to a high degree and a lot of already assembled sub-assemblies. As just a OOB build it is supposedly going to take 10-12 hours. The biggest problem I can see is just where do you display it? Luckily I don't have that problem as it is not mine. I have just be asked to build it for someone who unfortunately (or fortunately for me) does not believe they have the skill to build it. And how could I refuse.:grinno: Well here goes. Following this are photos of the kit. malscar 07-15-2008, 05:21 AM There are quite a few photos. First up, this is the model box as it comes out of the box it is mailed/couriered to you in. To give you a scale, the car on top is the same type of car but in 1/18th scale. The kit I am building is a road car version of this car. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/006.jpg malscar 07-15-2008, 05:25 AM Open the box and you are met with this. It is a tray with the body, bonnet, front quarter panels and many other bits. I will get back to this shortly. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/007.jpg malscar 07-15-2008, 05:29 AM Grab those two white ropes, and when you lift it out, you are met with another tray. This one has the chassis, engine, seats etc. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/008.jpg malscar 07-15-2008, 05:40 AM Lets look at this in a bit more detail. The bottom tray includes the rear seat (which is soft to replicate a real seat, exhausts, centre console, tail shaft etc. As you can see, the centre console is finished as a sub-assembly. This is the same with a lot of the items. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/009.jpg After taking the clear tray out that has the seat etc, you can see the chassis with carpet already installed, wheels and tyres, seatbelts, firewall and suspension sub-assembly etc. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/010.jpg This is the bottom of the chassis/floorpan. As you can see, it is highly detailed though more can be done. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/011.jpg You can see why I am not sure which area this should really be in. Anyway, let me show you more. malscar 07-15-2008, 05:44 AM These photos show a bit more detail of the bottom tray. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/012.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/013.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/014.jpg malscar 07-15-2008, 05:49 AM Now to the top tray. Here is the body shell. This of course bolts onto the chassis. All doors and boot open. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/015.jpg This is the underside. The headlining, dash, door linings are already installed. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/018.jpg Then we have the front quarter panels and bonnet with a hole for the shaker. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/019.jpg malscar 07-15-2008, 05:55 AM For those who love engines, you can actually buy this as a separate item. Don't know if I will be allowed to weather it. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/020.jpg This is another shot to give you some perspective of the size. The wheel leaning against it is a 1/24 Seat Cordoba tarmac wheel and tyre. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/023.jpg Here is a quick shot showing the body on the chassis with two wheels on the five wheel studs. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/024.jpg malscar 07-15-2008, 06:03 AM Lastly we have the small items like screws etc. This thing reminds me of my very old Meccano sets. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/026.jpg Instructions are pretty basic though they do have some suggestions to increase the detail level. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/027.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/029.jpg And finally, a copy of the owners manual that came with the original 1/1 car. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/WIP%20stuff/030.jpg What do you think? Is this the correct area? quadzero 07-15-2008, 08:56 PM I don't know about the area this should be in but I do know I sure like this. Thanks for all the photos, that is a pretty cool looking engine too. TZ2 07-16-2008, 04:48 AM Not my size (scale), however great looking kit! evilbob 07-16-2008, 06:37 PM It is an amazing looking kit, but I wouldn't be paying $1000 for it. Now, if it was an A9X torana, maybe! Just looking here (http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/ford_falcon_xy_gthoiii_technical_specifications.ht m), a 1/8th scale would be 58.6 cm long. That's a big model to be displaying! Rye 21 07-17-2008, 03:45 PM Thats insane..... in a good way!!! I love it, like, love it....lol. I want one. primera man 07-19-2008, 06:06 PM Awesome looking kit and one of my favorite all time cars. primera man 07-19-2008, 06:12 PM Awesome looking kit and one of my favorite all time cars. voyageur 07-20-2008, 04:04 AM You're spot on here with this kit :) Love the craziness of it, that thing is definitely huge and can be detailed to a level I don't want to imagine! How much detail are you going to add? Keep us posted, I think we all want to see more of it, hehe. Ferrari TR 09-01-2008, 01:44 AM coolness. something most of us will never see. package reminds me of some of the older tamiya RC kits. fasty=) 09-02-2008, 12:02 AM dang i've never seen that before : O looks like fun! how much did you pay? singer1074 09-03-2008, 10:55 PM dang i've never seen that before : O looks like fun! how much did you pay? As I was one of the 1st to put my $$$ down I paid $850AU:eek7: instead of the $995AU which they sell for now. Its money that could have been spent in a more productive fashion on my 1:1 Oldies TightDA8 11-20-2008, 12:02 PM That thing is dope! I love how they actually use 5 wheel studs to hold the tires on...Cant wait to see this finished...Reminds me of a 1/8 scale monogram Camaro i had as a kid... malscar 12-19-2008, 02:09 AM Finally got this thing built. The main problem I had was actually finding somewhere large enough to do it. Could not use the dining table as my daughter wanted somewhere to eat. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/other%20Cars/002.jpg The rear view mirror can be adjusted just like a real one. May leave this as if the girlfriend had grabbed it to check on her lipstick. :) http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/other%20Cars/003.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/other%20Cars/004-1.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/other%20Cars/009-1.jpg This also has a spare hubcap, a jack and wheel brace. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/other%20Cars/010.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/other%20Cars/011.jpg Final one is with both a 1/18 car and 1/43 car of the same model of car. Do not know what it weighs, but I have built my muscles up. :) http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/malscar/other%20Cars/014-3.jpg Will be delivering it to the owner tomorrow. Hope he is happy and actually has somewhere to display this. quadzero 12-21-2008, 01:01 PM This is a a very convincing looking model. You sure did an excellent job on it. The engine bay is amazing. EvilEclipse 01-04-2009, 08:00 PM WOW i want Hobbes 01-15-2009, 06:34 AM Now that is hot. :smokin: Though I don't have room for a 1:8 scale right now and I don't have $1000 to spend... zed4130 03-27-2009, 01:46 PM thats one amazing kit, paul TightDA8 06-15-2009, 02:21 PM very very nice.....can almost pass for a full size car... ajrichar 01-30-2010, 01:02 AM Sorry to dig up an old thread Mal but can you describe what you did to up-detail this car? You said that Icon Models' instructions gave some tips on extra detailing - did you do them and what were they? Given that this car is owned by a friend rather than being your own, if you had your own version, what would you have done to it (ie, detailing, weathering etc.)? singer1074 04-16-2010, 03:46 AM The Model is mine. Mal indicated that he would've put some weathering on it, at the very least Sorry to dig up an old thread Mal but can you describe what you did to up-detail this car?
