My Jeep is 1995 and has about 150K. Two of the door lock Actuator have not been working for some time now. I called the dealer and they told me it would cost me $150 for each actuator without installation. I called several junk yards and got the price quite from $45-80. Then I called “take it out yourself” junk yards and got the price from $7-20. So I stopped by over this weekend and pick one up for the front passenger side for $7.

I was inspired with reekor’s tutorial on A/C, that I decided to create my own and perhaps help someone. After all this is what forums are all about.

I will try to cover as much as I can; If you have questions feel free to ask. Anyway hear we go.

Picture 1. Tools you will need to get the job done: Philips screwdriver (one with magnetic tip is recommended), flat head screwdriver (for pulling the door cover off the door), star driver set (you will need this to get the actuator off the door), a knife to get some of the plastic covers off.

Picture 2. Evaluate the Actuator very carefully, because that’s how many rods you will have to remove before you can take the actuator out. Try to understand how the plastic brackets hold the rod in place. This will help you from braking the plastic brackets. You will have to take 4 rods out.

Picture 3. The arrows on this picture indicate all the screws you will have to take our. You will have to take the plastic around the pull handle before taking the door cover. To get the plastic around the pull handle, pull on the handle and then wiggle to plastic out (you may need to use the knife a bit to get the plastic off the door cover).
Make sure you roll up the glass before taking the door cover off.

Picture 4. Once you get the door cover off the door you will have to pull apart the some wire connectors before you can get the cover off entirely. After removing the door cover, just pull the protection plastic cover half way.

Picture 5. This is your working area. You may have to tape the opening if you don’t want to get cut. You will have to take off all the rods and power wire, and then use the star drive to finish the removal of the actuator.

After you have removed the old one reverse the process to put the new one in. Good luck and let me know if my tutorial was useful for you.
