I desperately need to buy a car and there is a 2000 Dodge Neon on sale for $2350 near here. Are there any major problems with this type and year?

By then all the kinks had been worked out. The early models had their problems being a new car and all.

But at the same time, any used car is only as good as it's previous owners. Look over the car carefully for any signs of abuse and whatnot. Check the engine bay for leaks, worn or frayed wires and stuff like that.

The 41TE 4 speed automatic transmission had most of the bugs fixed by then. But, you should still change the transmission fluid & filter every 15,000 miles on these.

I'm not sure when they fixed the clouding headlight cover problem.

I bought a new 2000 Neon because it still had the the 3-speed auto transmission. I didn't think they came out with the 4-speed until 2001. The 3-speed auto was a great transmission. I had them in my rural route cars(3 Dodge Spirits) and all of them lasted well over 165,000 miles of stop and go(100 mile route/400 stops)driving. We traded the Neon in 04 but wish now we would have kept it.
