Check the transmission fluid with the engine idling in neutral. If the level is good, and the fluid appears fairly clean, then you probably need to visit a repair shop. A low fluid level can cause shifting problems.

I'd do a Seafoam flush and filter myself first. Cheap/can't hurt anything..might work

xt I'd have it checked out WITHOUT taking it apart.

If that doesn't work I'd get a used trans from the bone and put that in.

high mileage flush = bad news in some cars. i also own a 1998 chevy lumina. most all the members over on the lumina forum agreed it,s certain death to the tranny to first time flush with high mileage. i think they said anything over 60,000 . anyone try to add about 1/2 of pint of seafoam(no flush) and have good results ?

I agree..NOT some..MOST!/pretty much all transmissions..and have posted/written extensively about it.Here.

Uh..yours is a 99 Escort with 120,000 on it. THIS transmission in GOOD shape is worth about $200 used.AND YOURS is slipping..yours is worth?? Core. you are worried about damaging it???

Seafoam trans. flush is VERY! aggressive. Iirc they reccommend you leave it in for about 5 miles then flush it.

My neighbour is a distributor I get it CHEAP..haha.

Like he said to me..and I agreed. "Yours is cooked. What harm NOW can Seafoam do"?.

Ah..If I hadn't used it..and posted about.. using it on a trans(Escort) that had severe problems(slipping/seizing up)..and was toast.. with about 250.000 on it..AND having had it work successfuly for another 100,000 (still worked fine when boned) do you think I would have reccommended it again??
