A bunch of thoughts in one topic.AlphaWolf56 07-06-2008, 11:52 PM First of all I'd lik to let you guys know that I'm new at this and I'm learning about cars using this forum, google and my dad. First thing, it's time that I change my oil. I was wondering what kind of oil is suggested. I was thinking of getting a high milage SL oil. I have a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo LSE with 95k on it. Maybe I get suggestions for this? Also when you take oil to recycling centers do they charge you? I can't seem to find this information. NExt, the AC. When ever I turn on my AC I get air flow, but no cold air. how can I fix this? I dont think it's an ssue with the AC needing to be charged since my dad told me the previous own(his friend) took the car to mechanics to fix the problem many times, but it was never really fixed. I could only guess that the mechanics charged the AC and said they were done concidering how most mechanics out there are horrible at what they do because they never really seem to fix the problem. Could there be a leak? and how can I check for this? and if it's not a leak how do I find what it is? Windshield wipers. When ever it slightly rains and I put the wipers on the 1st degree they go up a little and get stuck. But as soon as I turn it to degree 2 or 3 they continue to move, and the problem never happens with degree 2 or 3. This also happens when ever I try to use the washer, and the speed of which the wipers move when you use the washer is the same as degree one, so I'm linking the two but have no idea how to fix it. My last question is one reguarding some modifications. I',m interested in installing a super charger or a turbo. Which is better and why? I know with the super chargers you don't have the spool time, atleast that's what Ive been told but I don't fully understand it. Help on any of these topics would be greatly appriciated! :) Gizmo42 07-07-2008, 01:18 AM I was wondering what kind of oil is suggested. I was thinking of getting a high milage SL oil. Alot of guys use shell rotella T diesel oil because of its cleaning properties. I use valvoline max life synthetic with seafoam treatments. These engines tend to clog the oil drain back holes in the pistons which causes them to burn oil so keeping the inside clean is very important. These days I just have a service center change it but when I do change oil on something I just take it to the local parts store which accepts used oil and never had to pay. NExt, the AC. I dont think it's an ssue with the AC needing to be charged since my dad told me the previous own(his friend) took the car to mechanics to fix the problem many times, but it was never really fixed. It could be leaking. I always recommend taking it to someone to get it fixed. A/C is too easy to kill the compressor if you dont know what you are doing. Windshield wipers. HERE (http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=5608) is a write up I did on replacing the relays when my rear wiper stopped working. My last question is one reguarding some modifications. A turbo will be all custom job including getting exhaust manifolds built. Nobody ever made a kit. The only supercharger kits made were from Alpine Developments and cost around $3500. It would be more now if you can find one, they stopped making them. AlphaWolf56 07-07-2008, 02:13 AM Thank you for your help Gizmo, I appriciate it. I have been smelling the burning of oil so I will take care of that tomorrow. I've decided I want to go with a turbo, could you explain on the matter a bit more and about how it will be a full custom job? AlphaWolf56 07-07-2008, 03:17 AM for some reason I can't edit my last post, but I have a question regarding the seafoam. I buy a 16z bottle, put 1/3 of it in my gas tank, 1/3, in the engine where the oil is, and the last 1/3 I suck it up through that hose correct? Turn it off, wait 10 mins, start it up and drive.. Drive a bit until the smoke stops coming out of the exhaust, and then finally change the oil. Yes? How legal is this exactly? lol. I don't want to get a big fine, I certainly can't afford it, and I have some unfriendly neighbors who will most likely call the police. okmech1 07-07-2008, 09:32 AM Thank you for your help Gizmo, I appriciate it. I have been smelling the burning of oil so I will take care of that tomorrow You might have a bad valve cover gasket or the likes where oil is seeping onto the exhaust mainifold which would make the smell more apparent. Mark AlphaWolf56 07-07-2008, 06:24 PM So I did all the seafoam stuff and now I just need to change the oil and the filter. under the engine there is a metal plate which im guessing is for protective purposes, how do I get this off? I see where the bolt is but I can't unscrew it. I even tried hammering. AlphaWolf56 07-07-2008, 09:45 PM nvm, figured it out. Gizmo42 07-09-2008, 11:02 AM I've decided I want to go with a turbo, could you explain on the matter a bit more and about how it will be a full custom job? Since there was never a turbo kit available for the vehicles or engines you would need an exhaust manifold made to drive the turbo, custom intake, custom oil lines and connections, pretty much everything. I've seen it talked about a couple times but dont know of anyone that has actually done it. So yeah, I sort of dropped the idea. Gizmo42 07-09-2008, 07:31 PM Isuzu engines are far from weak, in fact they are over built. How many other factory engine have 6 bolt main bearings? Check this out.. http://www.supermarineaircraft.com/Engine.htm Would be a bad idea to use a weak engine in an aircraft I would think. Thats the same engine that runs in my 1999 rodeo? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
