If the MPH is working good you have a inside cluster problem.
Lot of printerd circuit stuff in there.
Unless you are good on printed circuit repair and luckie.
A rebuilt or exchange or used cluster is your best bet.
To stay out of hot water with the feds.
When changing the cluster the odometer millage needs to be set back to the same mileage as the old one.

I have a 99 Sonoma and had the same problem. Someone else on one of these threads posted a fix. It basically said the problem was a cold or broken solder joint on one of the small circuit board connectors (the eight or so wire connector going either to the odometer or the PRND321 circuit board). Good luck.
