87 Cherokee Pioneer Stallshangun61 06-25-2008, 01:00 PM My '87 Cherokee, 4.0; I-6 4WD has an intermittent stalling problem. Occasionally, at a stop and with no warning, the engine will just quit. It starts right back up and drives fine. It doesn't happen very often and there is no warning signs or patterns; it just stops running. Anybody ever seen this in this vehicle? Any luck fixing it? Any advice? Any help is greatly appreciated. fredjacksonsan 06-25-2008, 11:30 PM Does the 87 have a Crankshaft Position Sensor? Notorious. Do a search for CPS and you'll find a wealth of info. wwwildman 06-26-2008, 09:04 PM I had the same problem on an 89. It turned out to be the CPS--crank position sensor. The 87 does have the CPS, on the bellhousing, just like the 89. Mike vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
