v6 1999 rodeo LS

the brakes work fine when driving and stopping. when i pull the e-brake it has almost no effect on the car to stop it. i took of one of my rear tires and the cable is not pulling the pads the make it stop. is there something i can do to unfreeze the cable? how hard are the cables to replace/expensive?

Are you looking at the pads or shoes? The rear brakes are actually 2 brakes in 1. The pads work with normal braking, if you pull off the rotor you will see a set of brake shoes inside. Those are the parking brake. The rotors are actually a rotor and drum in one piece. It could be that yours just need adjusted.

The cables are not cheap. Figure around $70+ each. I dont remember exactly how much it was when one of mine went bad. I ended up getting a used one from a 2001 rodeo from Jerry (JLEMOND) for much less though. Its a different part number but bolted up and works fine. You dont even want to see the price of the brake shoes. Only available from Isuzu and sold per shoe, not sets.

You really shouldn't need new parking brake shoes unless you've been using the e-brake to stop the truck. Probably stuck adjusters or stretched cable.

the brakes are adjusted fine, had someone look at the brakes when i pressed pedal and looked ok, then when i pulled e.brake no action. that was for the driver side atleast. didnt bother looking at te epassenger.

I can but after market shoes from a discount auto store and they are around $20 or so. not too bad for shoes. but i guess my cable is just froze up. anyway to unfreeze? any online guide to replacing cables?
